Glen F. Neuschwanger

Glen F. Neuschwanger, age 84, of Mount Carroll, Illinois, died on Friday, January 1, 2009 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in Oakhill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. Glen was born on May 17, 1925, the son of Irve and Esther (Smith) Neuschwanger in Carroll County, Illinois. He married Alice Marie Ward on August 8, 1950 in Mount Carroll. Alice died on September 21, 1996.

Glen was a farmer in Carroll County and was active in his community. He was the Street Supervisor in Mount Carroll for sixteen years and worked with his son, Jon at Neuschwanger Pest Control, Mount Carroll. Glen was also a volunteer fireman and served as a Cub master in Mount Carroll. Glen was a good friend and a great father. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Glen will be dearly missed by four sons, Jeff Neuschwanger of Clinton, Illinois, Mike (Aurlene) Neuschwanger of Edgewood, Maryland, Jon Neuschwanger of Mount Carroll and Ted (Becky) Neuschwanger of Heltonville, Indiana; six grandchildren, Lizabeth (Josh) Jordan, Barbara Condry, Chloe, Sammantha, Katy, and Eric Neuschwanger; one great grandchild, Reese Marie Jordan; two sisters, Betty Kosher of Fairfield, Ohio and Doris Lindsay of Rockford, Illinois.

Glen is preceded in death by his wife, Alice; daughter, Gwen Neuschwanger; and one brother, Harry Neuschwanger.

Pearle Emma Grindey

Pearle Emma (Kniss) Grindey, 87, of Freeport, formerly of Lanark died on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2009 in Freeport.

Pearle was born on Feb. 8, 1922 at Florence Station, IL, a daughter of Albert and Anna (Steffen) Kniss. She spent her childhood on a farm near Pearl City and later in Rural Lanark. She married James Grindey on Feb. 14, 1952 at Acacia Park Lutheran Church in Norridge, IL by Rev. W. D. West, a close friend.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark for over 70 years, and then transferred to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in May of 1994. She was known to Lois and Betty’s friends as Mom Grindey. She enjoyed working with young people, and taught Sunday School for over 25 years, taught Bible School for many years as well. Pearle had a great love for children, she was one of the first three ladies to serve on the Church Council in 1953, served as president of the TLCW several times. Pearle served on the Altar Guild several terms, and served on other church committees where needed. Pearl was president of the Lanark Woman’s Club several times, a Heart Fund volunteer for many years, also a volunteer on the Cancer Fund. She worked for many years at the Zentner Drug Store and the Hi-Way Café. She helped organize the traveling house church for the elderly shut- ins of Trinity Lutheran Church and kept it going for many years.

Pearle had a great love for her family, home, church, and community. She loved going camping and fishing with her family. Her granddaughters brought her much happiness.

She is survived by two daughters; Lois Anne Rees and Betty Jo Grindey, son in law Kim Rees, near daughter; Judy Papini, two granddaughters; Claire (Chet) Brinkmeier and Sara (AJ) Croffoot, and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her fiancée; Maurice Guenzler, husband; James Grindey, parents, and two sisters Alice Moore and Esther Copenhaven and their husbands.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday Dec. 26, 2009, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Stephen Precht officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the church. Interment will be in Lanark Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in her memory for Trinity Lutheran Church and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Schwarz Funeral Home in Freeport.

Jackie K. Jones

Jackie K. Jones, age 62, of East Moline, Illinois, formerly of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at her home. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with Reverend Mark Balmer of Park Hills Church, Freeport, Illinois officiating. A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2010, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Linda Sue Traum

Linda Sue Traum went to be with the Lord on January 1, 2010. Linda was born to Ken and Leota (Johnson) Jambois on July 29, 1961 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She was a 1979 graduate of Thomson High School. Linda married John David Traum on June 16, 1983 in Mt. Carroll, Illinois.

She is survived by her father Ken, mother-in-law, Mary E. Lang of Savanna, three sisters-in-law, Melissa A. (James) Hoffman of Deer Trail, Colorado, Vicki Lynne (Rod) Fjelstad of Sterling, Illinois, Katherine Jo (Don) Ehnen of Richland, Missouri and two brothers-in-law, Craig E. Lang of Lanark and Leonard (Doris) Mechling of Freeport, Illinois. Linda is predeceased by her husband, John, her mother, Leota and a brother, Steve, in infancy. Linda will be dearly missed by her in-laws, church family and friends, Steve Smith of Clinton, Iowa and David and Judy Miner of Loran, Illinois.

Funeral arrangements are pending and with cremation after which an inurnment and service will follow at a later date.

Robert “Bob” Sievert

Robert “Bob” Sievert, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, January 4, 2010 at FHN Hospital, Freeport, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2010 at SS. John & Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll. A memorial visitation will be held 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll.

Shirley Nelson

Shirley Nelson, age 57, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at Kindred Hospital, Sycamore, Illinois after a long illness. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with Pastor Michael Wey of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Springlake Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
