West Carroll FFA Takes 1st at Section #1 FFA Land Use Contest
(Top) The West Carroll FFA Land Use team of members (l to r) Ethan Baisden, Colby Lemm, Joe Dykstra, Richard Houzenga, and
Brandon Colgan placed 1st at the Section #1 FFA Land Use CDE held on October 8th at the Jan Knight Farm outside Mount Carroll. West Carroll's
team score was 1251. Eastland placed 2nd with a score of 1197; Dakota 3rd, 883; Stockton 4th, 858; and Pearl City 5th, 817.
Individually West Carroll placed 5 varsity team members in the top 10, while Eastland placed 4. Ethan Baisden of West Carroll placed 1st overall
with a score of 441; Cory Snetcher of Eastland placed 2nd with 423; Colby Lemm WC in 3rd with 411; Faith Stoner, Eastland, 4th with 401; Richard
Houzenga,WC in 5th with 399, Joe Dykstra WC in 6th with 393, Brandon Colgan WC in 7th with 386; William Murphy, Eastland in 8th with 373; 9th was Sara
Runyun, Eastland with 370, and 10th was Mollie Miller of Pearl City with 349.

The FFA Land Use CDE consists of judging soil for its use for agriculture, home sites and septic tank filter fields by evaluating slope,
textures, structures, permeability, water-holding capacity, drainage, surface runoff, and allowable agricultural tillage practices.
