Savanna's Haunted Forest Rises Again

Michael Miller For The Prairie Advocate News

Just when you thought it was safe to go back into the woods behind Poopy's, it's time once again for the third annual Haunted Forest event in Savanna, IL.

The event, which will be held on October 17th, 23rd, 24th, 30th and 31st of this month, has been resurrected once again to chill area residents bones and just maybe, if they're lucky, provide a few laughs as well. Located in the City's 54 acres of property behind Poopy's, the Haunted Forest will take you on a wagon ride through fog enshrouded lanes, past ghouls and specters of every size and shape.

Created and performed by many area organizations, including the Savanna Train Car Museum, the Savanna Fire Department, Poopy's, First Savanna Savings Bank, Tangles, the Savanna Historical Society, Full House Flooring and Relay for Life, the Haunted Forest was dreamed up (or perhaps "night mared up") by several area citizens including Merle Long, Paul Hartman, Joe Granata, Jeff Griswold, Gail Bowman, and Ron Johnston. Once again, each group that participates in the event can take a portion of the proceeds if it desires, or it can leave it in the coffers for the Forest's expenses next year. And again, a certain portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Savanna Fire Department, and this year, the Relay For Life organization.

The Haunted Forest will introduce a new attraction, the aptly named "Tunnel of Terror", a ten foot wide and fifteen foot high passageway through which the tour wagon will journey, encountering all sorts of blood chilling phenomena inside. This structure, built with the help of the Fire Department, the Train Car Committee, Ron Miller, Phil Case, Poopy and others, will be just one element of a twenty-minute wagon car tour. Visitors will be able to take the tour from dusk till around ten o'clock. Adult tickets will cost $8.00 a piece, with children that are accompanied by an adult paying $4.00 a piece.

So bring a jacket and a steel nerve and come out to support this unique community experience that will benefit some great organizations, and give you a thrill or two along the way.
