Lillian M. Thorngren, age 95 of Milledgeville, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Mt. Carroll.
Lillian was born on June 10, 1918 in Fair Haven Township to Floyd and Mary (Jones) Miller. She married Robert S. Thorngren on August 9, 1941 in Milledgeville. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2010. Lillian was a homemaker, helped on the farm and over the years worked several jobs. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. She enjoyed cooking and especially baking pies and cookies. She also enjoyed doing crafts
Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Les) Meyers of Bonita Springs, FL; one son, Dave (Rita) Thorngren of Milledgeville; one sister, Beth Holland of Thomson; one brother-in-law, Roger Thorngren of Mt. Morris; five grandchildren, Sheri (Steve) Brezinka, Cris (Tim) Emerson, Scott (Sara) Thorngren, Kara (Lucas) Robinson, and Kalah (Tyke) Spencer; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters, Evelyn Howe and Betty Munz; one brother Glen Miller and one sister-in-law, Carol Thorngren.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 19, 2013 from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. at the Milledgeville Brethren Church. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Reverend Jim Black officiating. Burial will be at South Elkhorn Cemetery in Milledgeville.

Rev. Robert Crofton

Robert Emerson Crofton, 85 years, passed away in the early hours of October 14, 2013 at Cox Medical in Springfield, MO after a massive heart attack the day before.
“Bob” was born November 16, 1927 near Lanark, Illinois, to George and Elsie (Klenz) Crofton.
Bob had been a resident of Ava since the 1990s. He was a retired Lutheran minister, having served most recently as Pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Ava. He was a graduate of Carthage College and Luther Seminary.
On June 7, 1952 Bob and Anna Thomack were united in marriage in LaCrosse, WI and to this union four sons were born.
Bob was very active in the local Lions Club, singing groups, gardening and church activities. He traveled frequently, maintaining close relationships with friends and relatives around the country. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Ava. Bob was a pioneer in organic gardening, having practiced it for more than 50 years. He enjoyed history and a good laugh, and was known as a humble, gentle soul with a great deal of love and compassion, who truly practiced what he preached.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marjorie when she was 13 months old, and his wife Anna who passed away in 2009.
Bob is survived by four sons; James (Detroit, MI), Luther (Princeton, NJ), Stephen (Paradise Valley, AZ) and Mark (Rancho Palos Verdes, CA), seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters; Marian Rasmussen of Lanark, IL and Virginia Helms, Mt. Carroll, IL and one brother, Randy Crofton, of Oregon, Illinois, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Bob will be on Saturday, October 26, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ava, MO with burial in the Ava Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to service time in the church. Officiating will be performed by Pastor Wayne Strohschein. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Ava. Services are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava.

Euveta S. Hook, 82, on Monday, October 14, 2013 at her caretaker’s home in rural Savanna. A Funeral Service was held Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. A visitation was held from prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Savanna Township Cemetery.

Richard “Dick” Frederick Johnson, 64, of Argo Fay, Illinois died Monday, October 14, 2013 at the VA Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial service was held Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the United Methodist Church of Argo Fay. A memorial gathering will be held one hour prior to the service on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Church. Burial of ashes will take place at a later date in the Upper York Cemetery, Argo Fay. A memorial fund has been established in his memory.

Thomas R. “Tommy” Sheridan, 79, of Hanover died Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover. Cremation Rites will be accorded following the Mass. A visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m., following the visitation. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Autism Speaks, Heifer.org or the Sinsinawa Dominican Sisters in Tommy’s memory.

Burial will take place in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church.
