Carroll, Whiteside Police Reports

Chadwick Man Killed in Single Vehicle Accident

On Friday, October 19, 2012, at approximately 7:40 p.m., the Carroll County Sheriff’s Dept. received a 911 call reporting a roll-over accident that occurred on IL Rt. 40 at the intersection of Big Hill Rd. just west of Chadwick, IL.

A vehicle driven by James Drennan, 57, of Chadwick, was westbound on Rt.40 when it drove across the roadway, down into the ditch and striking a culvert, causing the vehicle to roll over. Drennan was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.

Chadwick Fire and Ambulance and LifeLine helicopter responded to the accident. Drennan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assisting Chadwick at the scene was Mount Carroll Ambulance, and the Chadwick & Mount Carroll Police Depts., CC Sheriff’s deputies, and the CC Coroner.

The accident remains under investigation by the CC Sheriff’s office.

Morrison Police Reports Weekly Activity

Morrison Police Chief Brian Melton reports the following arrests made and citations issued since Monday, October 15, 2012.

The following Arrests are reported.

On Friday, October 5, 2012, at approximately 8:44 pm, Morrison Police with the assistance of the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police, responded to call of a male subject with a firearm at Express Lane (Shell), 651 West Lincolnway, Morrison. Morrison Police and assisting agencies searched the area and did not locate the male subject. During the investigation, Morrison Police learned that the subject did not display or make any threats with a firearm and only stated that he possessed one. As a result of this investigation, on Monday, October 8, 2012, Morrison Police arrested Blake O. Stearns, age 20 of Clinton IA, charging Stearns with Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Stearns was released on a Notice to Appear.

On Friday, October 19, 2012, at approximately 5:09 pm, Morrison Police arrested Lashawn E. Melvin, age 20 of Morrison, pursuant to an Arrest Warrant issued by Jo Daviess County charging Melvin with Failure to Appear – Possession of Methamphetamines. Melvin was transported to the Whiteside County Jail.

The following Citations were issued.

10-18-12: Charles F. Wick, 49, Gratiot WI - Failure to Reduce Speed/Accident;

10-18-12: Samantha Thompson, 26, Morrison - Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle & Failure to Notify SOS/Address Change;

10-19-12: Mehul O. Thakkar, 32, Schaumburg - Speeding;

10-19-12: Hector Rodriguez, 46, Sterling - Failure to Reduce Speed/Accident.

The public is reminded that these are merely charges and all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
