Marcella M. Davis

Marcella M. Davis, age 98, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at the CGH Medical Center, Sterling, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 1, 2008, at SS John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll, with Father Dennis Atto officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held 5:30 –8:00 p.m, Friday, October 31, 2008. at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Marcella Maurine Davis was born September 24, 1910, in Mt. Carroll, the daughter of Phillip and Jessie (Sisler) Hartman. She attended school in Mt. Carroll. Marcella was united in marriage to Donald W. Hanna September 1, 1930. He preceded her in death on December 31, 1932. Marcella later married Richard D. Davis on August 25, 1936, in Clinton, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 9, 2000.

Marcella worked as a clerk at the Mt. Carroll Pharmacy and Five & Dime Retail Store, but she loved being a homemaker. She loved to make cookies at Christmas and also made great pies. Marcella was a member of the SS John and Catherine Catholic Church in Mt. Carroll.

Marcella is survived and lovingly remembered by one son, Kim (Vicki) Davis of Sylvania, Ohio; three daughters, Gwendolyn (Guy) Asay of Lanark, Illinois, Delores Davis of Marion, Iowa, and Pamela Zinanni of Rock Falls, Illinois; fourteen grandchildren, seventeen great – grandchildren, and five great – great – grandchildren; one brother, Arlan (Joann) Hartman of Normal, Illinois; two nieces and three nephews.

Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one brother, Marvin Hartman; and one son – in – law, Rolland Davis.

Leila M. Baughman

Leila M. Baughman, 83, died Thursday October 23, 2008 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Leila was born on September 23, 1925 in Milledgeville the daughter of Nelson and Clara (Hubbard) Bushman. She married Lloyd Baughman on April 26, 1947 in Milledgeville. Leila, a homemaker, was also employed at the Milledgeville Veterinary Clinic, Milledgeville State Bank and Polhills Inc. for several years. She is a member of the United Methodist Church in Milledgeville, Milledgeville Woman's Club and American Legion Auxillary.

Survivors include her husband, Lloyd of Milledgeville; three daughters, Sherri (Jim) Bertolet of Bloomington, Jan (John) Tomczak of Sterling and Sue (Lou) Lamoreux of Lanark. three sons, Jim (Tammy) Baughman of Eagle River, Wis., Jeff (Jeanette) Baughman of Campbellsport, Wis. and Scott (Jackie) Baughman of Sheboygan, Wis., two brothers, David (Harriet) Bushman of Milledgeville and Lynford Bushman of Callifornia, sixteen grandchildren, Josh (Leah) and Andrea Baughman, Kristi (Bob) Rice, Josh and Jeff Bertolet, Corey (Jennifer) Kendall and Marcy (Scott) Lenox, Calli (Braden) Curtis, Cara, Nathan and Zach Lamoreux, Tamara and Tyson Baughman, Travis, Sarah and Matthew Baughman, step-grandchildren, Michelle (Roger) Miller and Jennifer Tomczak. eight great grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Russell, George, Salem, Howard and Henry, her sister Dorothy Rick and grandson, Jason Kendall.

Memorial services will be 3:00 PM Sunday November 2, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Milledgeville with Reverend Dan Sturtevant officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1:00 PM -3:00 PM before the memorial service at the church. At Leila's request her body has been donated to medical science. Burial at Oak Knoll Memorial Park will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to the Milledgeville United Methodist Church.

Alfred J. Geiger

Alfred J. Geiger, age 81, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Wednesday, October 22, 2008, at the Elizabeth Nursing Home. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 27, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Law ­ Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Burial will follow in the Lost Mound Cemetery, rural Hanover, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 3 ­ 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 26, at the Law ­ Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Elizabeth Nursing Home. Alfred was born March 31, 1927, in Cascade, Iowa, the son of Joseph J. nad Madeline (Schmitt) Geiger. He attended school in the Hanover area. Alfred was united in marriage to Irma "Jean" Potter on October 14, 1950, at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2003. Alfred served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

Alfred farmed his entire life in the Elizabeth and Hanover areas, mostly in Elizabeth. He enjoyed farming very much and was dedicated to his farm.

Alfred is survived by one brother, Joseph Geiger of Hanover, Illinois; two brothers ­ in ­ law, Johnnie Reush of Elizabeth, and Ed (Katie) Potter of Hanover; two sisters ­ in ­ law, Betty (Bill) Sheperd of Hanover, and Mickey (Norm) Vanderheyden of Stockton, Illinois; two nieces, Kathey (Jerry) Mapes of Stockton, and Janet Wenzel of Galena, Illinois; and one nephew, Bill (Teresa) Reusch of Rockton, Illinois.

Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irma "Jean", and three sisters, Dorothy in infancy, Lucille Reusch, and Marie McCoy and her husband Edward.

Charles "Charlie" Sipe

Charles "Charlie" Sipe of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral Services will be held, 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 31, 2008 at the Church of God, Mt. Carroll with Pastor Rick Zickefoose officiating. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll and also one hour prior to the service at the Church.. Charlie was born July 14, the son of Bert Lee and Mamie Alice (Riley) Sipe in Mohawk, Tennessee. On August 6, 1976, Charlie married Linda L. Bender in Rogerville, Tennessee. Upon moving to Carroll County, Illinois, Charlie took a job at the Savanna Ice House and the Milwaukee Railroad for 24 years. He owned and operated Charlie's Tavern in Savanna and Charlie's II Tavern in Mt. Carroll. He also worked for Kasbohm Custom Drilling in Savanna. Charlie lived and farmed near Mt. Carroll where he and Linda raised five children. He loved his grandchildren, there was nothing that gave him more joy then his grandchildren. He enjoyed sitting around with friends and telling stories, or out moving earth with his bulldozer. He loved a good challenge, truth be told, Charlie wrestled a bear and lived to tell about it. He climbed a telephone poll backwards with out falling. Charlie was a unique, interesting and loving man.

Charlie will be dearly missed by his wife, Linda of Mt.Carroll; four sons, Tim Snapp of Greenville, TN; Tom Sipe of Savanna; Donnie (India) Sipe of Mt. Carroll and Charlie (Tonya) Sipe of Mt. Carroll; three daughters, Peggy (George) Grams of Camanche, Iowa; Bobbie Jo (Carl) Bates of Mt. Carroll and Stacie (Robert) Klein of Savanna; six step daughters; twenty six-grandchildren and fourteen great grand children; seven sisters, Lenore "Sis" Cobble, Annie Richer, Peggy (Larry) Wilder, Nancy (George) Tempest, all of Tennessee; Betty Kalal of Minnesota, Ella Bea Horner and Jane (Bill) Atkenson of Wisconsin and numerous step-grandchildren.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents; a step-grandson; four brothers and one sister.

Norma L. Hughes

Norma L. Hughes, age 80, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday October 27, 2008, at Big Meadows Nursing Facility, Savanna, after a long illness. A Graveside Service will be held at Clinton Lawn Cemetery on Friday October 31, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Larry Thomson from the First United Methodist Church, Savanna officiating. Norma was born May 5, 1928 in Clinton, Iowa to Glen E. "Jack" and Leona Getty Sims. She married Donald L. Hughes on May 5, 1951 in Clinton. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1946. Norma worked at Eaton Controls in Savanna as an inspector for twenty five years until her retirement.

Norma was a member of the Savanna First United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid sports fan, cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs.

Norma will be dearly missed by her husband, Donald; one daughter, Nancy (Tom) Sweitzer of Milledgeville; a son, Donald Hughes Jr. of Aransas Pass, Texas; and a granddaughter, Allison (Aaron) Eilers of Billings, Montana.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Robert C. "Bob" Hutchison

Robert C. "Bob" Hutchison, age 67, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the First Baptist Church, Mt. Carroll with Pastor Bob Ziebarth officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Memorials may be given in Bob's name for the local organization of your choice.

Bob was born February 7, 1941 in Pekin, Illinois, the son of Robert P. And Doris (Ruble) Hutchison. He graduated with the Class of 1959 from Bettendorf High School, Bettendorf, Iowa. In 1963, he graduated from the College of Pharmacy at Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. On August 25, 1963, Bob married his college sweetheart, Mary Ann Plate.

After few years of working as a pharmacist in the Quad Cities, Bob purchased a local pharmacy in Mt. Carroll, IL, in 1968. Bob and Mary Ann quickly fell in love with Mt. Carroll. In 1970, he was joined by his brother, John, changing the store name to The Pharmacy Center. After a 30-year career in Mount Carroll, he retired in 1998. Bob loved working with people as a community pharmacist, and serving as a delegate to the Illinois Pharmaceutical Association for three decades. Bob was an enthusiastic and dedicated community leader and volunteer. He served in many leadership roles for the Mt. Carroll First Baptist Church and the Mt. Carroll Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in the Senior Living Board, Campbell Center Board, Jaycees, and various other community groups and projects. Through his daughter's encouragement, Bob became a national volunteer with the KaBOOM! Organization to create safe play areas in under-served neighborhoods.

Bob believed in hard work, doing his part for his community, and also having fun in life. He loved traveling, good food, boating on the Mississippi, playing trumpet in the Mt. Carroll Stage Band, spending time with friends and family, and being a doting grandfather.

Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Ann Hutchison of Mt. Carroll; his son, Robert H. Hutchison of Savanna; his daughter, Dawn (Christopher) Hutchison-Weiss of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and three brothers, John (Jean) Hutchison of Mt. Carroll, Dick (Penny) Hutchison of Orion, Illinois and Jim (Ann) Hutchison of Burlington, Wisconsin. Bob is preceded in death by both parents.
