Schriner Returns to VB at Elmhurst
Callie Schriner of Lanark is a returning 2-year letter-winner of the 2008 Elmhurst College women's volleyball team. Schriner, a 5-9
junior outside hitter, is a nursing major. She is the daughter of Dennis and Karen Schriner of rural Lanark.
In 2007, Callie played in 32 matches, recording 220 kills, 6 assists, 419 digs, 18 service aces, and 21 blocks. She ranked third on the team in kills.
The Elmhurst Bluejays finished the 2007 season with an overall record of 14-18.
"This team is really out to prove something to themselves and to their opponents," said head volleyball coach Julie Hall. "They're out to put
the Elmhurst College volleyball program back on the map."
Elmhurst College, located 16 miles west of downtown Chicago, is a charter member of the CCIW (College Conference of Illinois/Wisconsin)
and competes at the Division III level of the NCAA.
Milledgeville Rolls Past East Dubuque, Ends Regular Season Undefeated
MILLEDGEVILLE The Milledgeville Missiles remain perfect. Milledgeville concluded the regular-season undefeated Friday night, defeating
visiting East Dubuque 46-20. The Gary Hartje-coached Milledgeville team scored 24 points in the opening quarter and never trailed on its way to the
convincing victory.
The Missiles held East Dubuque scoreless in the first and third quarters. Milledgeville carried an impressive 30-12 lead into halftime, outplaying
the Warriors from the opening kickoff.
The Missiles led 30-0 before East Dubuque worked its way on the scoreboard for the first time.
Jake Workman paced the Milledgeville offensively unit, rushing for three touchdowns. Missile quarterback Kirk Engelkens had a hand in on
two touchdowns rushing for one and passing for another.
Greg Fredericks opened the scoring for Milledgeville when he escaped the East Dubuque defensive unit and score on a 12-yard run less than
two minutes into the regular-season finale.
Milledgeville was a quick strike offensive unit throughout the contest. Engelkens hooked up with Kurt Landis on a 12-yard touchdown pass
three minutes after the game's opening touchdown.
Numerous Milledgeville players contributed offensively. As a team, Milledgeville rushed for 346 yards via 42 carries. The Missiles rushed for
five touchdowns.
East Dubuque rushed for 219 yards on 42 attempts. The Warriors picked up 112 yards through the air. East Dubuque was intercepted three times in
the late-season setback.
Austin Fluhr scored for the Warriors on a 68-yard run. Drew Weber found the endzone for East Dubuque on a 16-yard scamper as the Warriors put
up a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter.
Milledgeville, however, continued to dominate in the second half. The Missiles blanked East Dubuque 16-0 in the third quarter, carrying a
commanding 46-12 lead into the final frame.

Wildcats Blank West Carroll
SAVANNA Eastland-Pearl City scored early and often Friday night. The Wildcats set the tone early on in a pivotal road game versus rival
West Carroll. Eastland-Pearl City secured its spot in the playoffs in dominating fashion, shutting out the Thunder 35-0.
On a wet field, each team's offensive unit struggled to advance the ball up the field early on. Eastland-Pearl City, however, eventually got going.
The Wildcats outscored West Carroll 14-0 in the opening quarter. Eastland-Pearl City took a 22-0 lead into halftime.
The Wildcats benefitted from one-half dozen West Carroll interceptions. The Eastland Pearl City defensive squad kept pressure on West Carroll in
the key high school football regular-season finale. Eastland-Pearl City was out in front 35-0 at the end of the third quarter.
Jerime Coombes led Eastland-Pearl City on the ground, rushing 13 times for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Coombes, one of the area's most
athletic high school football players, also hauled in a touchdown reception.
Through the air, Wildcat quarterback Carson Walker completed 10-of-14 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown. Tyler Zumdal hauled in one
catch for a 52-yard touchdown for Eastland-Pearl City. Cole Miller caught five passes for 49 yards.
Defensively, Eastland-Pearl City held West Carroll to 214 yards of total offense. E-PC intercepted six West Carroll passes.
David Walter rushed 11 times for 46 yards in the Thunder loss. Quarterback Ethan Baisden picked up 34 yards via six carries and led West Carroll
in rushing average.
Ethan Baisden completed four-of-13 passes for 69 yards. The West Carroll starting signal-caller threw five interceptions. In his lone passing
attempt, Justin Ferguson was intercepted for the Thunder. Ferguson led West Carroll in receiving, grabbing four catches for 58 yards.
Tyler Stricker grabbed on catch for 11 yards in the West Carroll setback.
