Gerald L. “Doc” Mance, Dr. of Chiropractic, 64, of Morrison, Illinois died at his home on Monday, October 21, 2013. Doc wished that there be no funeral service. Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. A Masonic service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation.
Interment will be at the Forrest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donors’ choice in Doc’s memory.
Doc was born on October 8, 1949 to Wiley L. and Florence (Newman) Mance in Chattanooga, TN. Doc received his Bachelors degree at Hamilton University and later his Doctorate at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, IA. Doc owned and operated Mance Chiropractic in Morrison for 35 years.
He belonged to the Dunlap Masonic Lodge #321 – AF & AM in Morrison and was a 32° Mason. Doc was also a member of the Knight-Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, and the Sons of the Confederate Veterans. He was fond of all shooting sports, fast cars, and restoring old red tractors. He enjoyed working on older cars, horseback riding, and hammering iron. Above all, Doc loved helping people.
Survivors are one nephew: David McGhee of Phoenix, AZ.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Two Sisters: Peggy & Patricia, and One Brother: Thomas
Doc was a good man that will be greatly missed by all of those who knew him.
Tom Adolph treasured God, family, community and farming. As quoted by one of his favorites, “Now, the rest of the story . . .”
Raymond “Tom” Adolph, age 77, of rural Morrison passed into the arms of God Thursday, October 24, 2013 while doing what he loved, farming. Tom’s life was shaped by growing up on a family farm near Milledgeville. He attended the Fairhaven Country School and is a Chadwick High School graduate with the Class of 1954. Tom served in the US Army from 1955 - 1957. On September 1, 1955, he married Judy Lewis in the Fairhaven Church. They have celebrated 58 years of marriage.
Tom enjoyed going to car shows and auctions. He was an avid collector of clocks. Tom also liked to shoot trap. Most of all, Tom doted over his grandchildren, especially his” grandgirls.” He was a member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God.
Tom is lovingly remembered by his wife Judy of Morrison; two sons, Tim (Ellen) Adolph of Chadwick and Dave (Renee) Adolph of Morrison; five grandchildren, Jenna and Hannah (Nathan) VonHolten, Alissa (Rob) Barajas, Justine (Matt) Reinhart, and Olivia Adolph; one great granddaughter, Adlee Marie Barajas; and two brothers, Vernon “Jr.” (Darlene) Adolph of Milledgeville and Stan (Marge) Adolph of Sugar Grove. Tom is preceded in death by both of his parents, Vernon and Alice (Rippy) Adolph.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2013 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with visitation prior to the service from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in North Clyde Cemetery, rural Morrison, with full Military Honors.
Judy A. Miller
Judy A. Miller was as good at being a daughter/daughter-in-law as she was at being a mother and a grandmother. She entered into heaven at the age of 75, Friday, October 25, 2013 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, Illinois.
Judy was a farm wife and cherished being able to take care of her family and the cattle, chickens, hogs and horses. She helped chaperone many school functions. Most of all she was a very proud mother and grandmother because she was able to help raise two generations in her family. Judy was also an amazing gardener she could grow anything, and a cook and her family always enjoyed her homemade bread. Judy was a member of Fairhaven United Methodist Church and cherished her church family. She lived her life by His word.
Judy was born on May 24, 1938 in Mounds, Illinois, the daughter of Stanley and Alice (Morford) Knupp. She attended Dixon High School and graduated with the Class of 1956. On December 14, 1957 Judy married the love of her life John Miller at the Fairhaven Methodist Church.
Judy is lovingly remembered by her husband, John of Chadwick, Illinois; one son, Jeff Miller of rural Chadwick; two daughters, Julie Miller of Morrison, Illinois, Janet (Bernie) Wiersema of Chadwick; five grandchildren, Shelly (Greg) Lantz, Jonathan Miller, Matthew Miller, Katelyn (Trent Gebhardt) Wiersema, Andrew Wiersema; five great grandchildren, Jacob and Kyle Lantz, Hunter and Trever Miller, Madalynn, Dorathy; one brother, David Nain and a sister Carolyn Sue Burke of Jacksonville, Illinois. Judy is preceded in death by her grandparents; both parents; and a brother-in-law.
A private graveside service will be held in the Fairhaven Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Fairhaven Methodist Church in Judy’s memory. Friends and family may share Judy’s life at www.lawjonesfunerahome.com.
Alison Geary, 40, Alvarado, MN, formerly of Grand Forks, MN, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 15, 2013 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Alison Joy Norton was born on May 30, 1973 in Grafton, ND, the daughter of Ronald and Alice Norton. She was raised in East Grand Forks, MN and she graduated from East Grand Forks High School in 1991. Alison graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Moorhead State University in 1997, Bachelor of Science in Education from UND and a Masters in Secondary Education in Science in 2010 from Bemidji State University. She was married on August 16, 1997 to Michael Geary. They made their home in East Grand Forks before moving to Alvarado. Alison worked at Altru Hospital and McDonald’s before becoming a science teacher at Warren/Alvarado/Oslo High School in Warren, MN.
She enjoyed quilting, scrap booking, raising chocolate labs, cheerleading, duck hunting, fishing, ice fishing and traveling Europe. The Class of 2009 dedicated the school annual to Alison.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband, Mike of Alvarado, MN; stepchildren, A.J. and Ethan Geary; mother, Alice (Wes) Jensen of Cabot, AR; sister, Christina Norton of Angus, MN; brother, William “Billy” Norton of Carver, MN; sisters, Rachel Schreiner of Grand Forks, ND, Audrey Delaney of West Chester, PA and Elizabeth Jensen of Olathe, KS and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Norton; and grandparents, Gunder and Agnes Ruud and William and Ann Norton.
A funeral service was held Saturday, October 19, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at Warren/Alvarado/Oslo High School Auditorium in Warren, MN. Rev. Brian Schanil. Interment was held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Alvarado, MN.
