Carroll County Farm Bureau

By Chastity Welch, Farm Bureau Manager

With the holidays right around the corner, it is beginning to smell like them here in the office. We just received our latest shipment of BeanPod candles. Once again BeanPod came out with new scents for the season, actually this year they came out with quite a few new scents for the holidays. Some of these scents include: Ski Chalet, Potted Mums, Crimson Berry, Crystal Lake, and Chai Tea. We also have in stock the returning favorites of Maple Pumpkin, Holiday Memories, Evergreen, and Roasted Pear. Unfortunately they no longer have the Candy Cane scent. That always was one of our most popular scents. So stop by and see which scent is your new favorite.

There are still appointments available for the family portraits on November 24 and 25. We know it is Thanksgiving weekend but we thought that it may benefit more members who have family coming from a distance for the holiday. Don’t hesitate to call today before the time slots fill up! Picture times are available from 9 a.m. till 2 p.m.

Come March, we will all be ready to get out and do something fun. Winter whether it is mild or not, just seems to drag. What better way to beat the winter blues with a bus trip to see Grease at Fireside Dinner Theater. We have a bus trip booked for Saturday, March 9. The bus will leave our office at 8 a.m. that morning for the 1:30 p.m. show. We will be enjoying lunch at Fireside prior to the show. Cost is $95 for members which includes transportation, the show, lunch and gratuity. It is a fully encompassed trip. Contact our office to reserve your spot. Tickets also make a great holiday gift for that hard to buy person.

Election Day is only days away. Have you decided who you are voting for? Please do your research as you head to the polls as to who your candidates are and what their opinions are on the matters which you find most important.

Ready for some family fun? Boone, Carroll, DeKalb, Jo Daviess, Lee, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Whiteside, and Winnebago Farm Bureaus® are hosting the 2012 N IL Farm Bureau Bowling Tournament at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 19th at the Forest Hills Lane in Rockford, IL. The tournament will consist of the following men and women divisions: under 12 with bumpers; under 12 without bumpers; Young Adult 12-18; Young Adult 19-35; Adult 36-54; Senior 55-64; and Senior 65+. Awards will be presented for high score individual in each division as well as high score in the Child (under 12) and Adult (12+) divisions. Divisions will be determined by your age the day of the tournament.

Reservations are due to our office by Friday, January 4, 2013. The cost per bowler will be $14.00 (children under twelve will be $12.00) with free shoe rental. (The registration fee will be collected at the bowling alley.)

I have found something that I dislike as much as snow. It would be leaves! I just enjoyed a trip up to the roof to get the leaves out of the valleys as it is going to rain. In one area of the roof there were nearly 3 garbage bags of leaves. The guys who were laying the I-Fiber cables were laughing at me as I carried the 16 ft. ladder from spot to spot to clean the leaves out of the gutters. Mental note: I need to get gutter guards installed and I am going to go buy a leaf blower.
