Miles Raab

Miles C. Raab, 71, of Shannon, died Sunday Nov. 8, 2009 in Juneau, WI.

He was born on March 19, 1938 in Freeport, a son of William and Marjorie (Eaton) Raab, and was a graduate of Mt. Carroll High School.

He married Sandra Hartman on Sept. 14, 1958 in Mt. Carroll. She preceded him in death on April 11, 1993. He was employed by Barker Lumber Co. in Shannon for 20 years, and was then self-employed. He loved pitching horseshoes, mushroom hunting, playing cards, and collecting antique tools.

Surviving are four children; Brian (Pam) Raab, Brenda Raab, both of Lanark, Connie Kelly of Freeport, and Ann (Ronald) Strohecker of Lanark, seven grandchildren; Amber (Keith) Lehnherr, Audrey (Matthew) Mullen, Karie Raab, Katie Raab, Tabitha Lessman, Richard Strohecker, Zoe Strohecker, one great grandson; Oliver Lehnherr, his brothers and sisters; Mona (Charles) Balles, Marshall (Helen) Raab, MaryLou (Leroy) Bower, Millard (Linda) Raab, Marie Bawden, and Milford Raab. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Sandra, an infant son, Kirk, five sisters, and three brothers.

Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday Nov. 12, 2009 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport with Pastor John Sgro of the Church of the Brethren in Lanark officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 pm on Wednesday at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark. A memorial has been established in his memory.

Natalie Law

Natalie "Nan" B. Law, age 96, of Cincinnati, Ohio, previously of Savanna, died Monday, November 9, 2009 at home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church, Savanna. Pastor Michael Wey will officiate. Burial will be in the Savanna Twp Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.

Larry Rinker

Larry D. Rinker, age 69, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Saturday, November 7, 2009, at his home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth with Reverend Dan Schenck officiating. Burial will take place in St Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth. A visitation will be held from 5:00 ­ 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, 2255 JFK Drive, Dubuque, Iowa 52001.

Alfred Kummer

Alfred F. Kummer, age 79, of Apple River, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at his home. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Elizabeth. Cremation rites will be accorded following the funeral mass. A private family burial will take place in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Elizabeth at a later date. Memorials may be given to F.H.N. Hospice in Alfred's memory

Bessie Rowland

Bessie Elizabeth Rowland, age 80, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Friday, November 6, 2009, at Liberty Village, Freeport, Illinois from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God, with Reverend George Reser officiating. Burial will follow in the Lanark City Cemetery, Lanark. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m., prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Bessie's memory.

Ramona Nelson

Ramona Marie Nelson, age 81, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 2, 2009 at her home in Hanover, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, at the Hanover United Presbyterian Church with Pastor Lynne Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover. Visitation will be held from 4 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, at the Law - Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. Memorials may be directed to the Melanoma Research Foundation or the American Heart Association.
