Harry L. Bousman, age 89, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, November 10, 2008, at the Trinity Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 14, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna. Burial will follow in the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 9 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the Church. Harry was born May 20, 1919, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Edward and Ida (Denny) Bousman. He attended the Walnut Grove School. He live most of his life in Savanna where he had many friends and was always close to his family. Harry proudly served in the United States Army during World War II.
Harry worked at the Savanna Ordinance Depot for thirty – three years, retiring in 1972. He was a member of the Savanna First United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the American Legion in Savanna and was a member of NARFE, a civil service organization. Harry loved watching the eagles fly near the Mississippi River, was a country music fan, and loved being with his family.
Harry is survived by one brother, Robert (Lena) Stenback of Freeport, Illinois; six nieces and nephews, Carol (David) Guss of Rock Island, Illinois, Jack (Gloria) Stenback of Kingman, Arizona, Randall (Joyce) Stenback of German Valley, Illinois, Fran (Ed) Hamilton of Caneyville, Kentucky, Roxanne Bousman of Milan, Illinois, and Debi Stenback of Freeport, Illinois; seventeen great nieces and nephews, twenty – six great great – nieces and nephews, and nine great – great – great – nieces and nephews.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, John “Ed” Bousman and William Cecil “Billy” Bousman, one niece and one great niece.

Candice Kaytlynn “Candy” Murphy, age 15, of Savanna, Illinois, died on November 10, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family. Candy was born June 25, 1993 in Sterling, Illinois. She came into the lives of Robert and Lora Murphy on October 22, 1998 as a Foster Child. She became a permanent part of their family through adoption on January 10, 2001. Candy was a homebound student with the West Carroll school system.
Throughout Candy’s life she fought a courageous battle with neurological brain disease. She was an inspiration to many; sharing her love and touching the lives of so many. Candy enjoyed music, watching Disney programs and movies and spending time with other children.
Candy will be dearly missed by her parents, Robert and Lora Murphy of Savanna; two sisters, Katie Murphy of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Natalie (Travis) Newcomb of Clinton, Iowa; her nephew and best friend, Jackson; maternal grandmother, Myrna Dague of Sabula, Iowa; paternal grandparents, Pat (Ann) Murphy of Savanna; paternal great grandmother, Leola Wellman of Palmyra, Missouri and several Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Erma G. Stein
Erma G. Stein, age 90, of Savanna, Illinois, died Sunday, November 9, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. Erma was born on June 22, 1918 in Polo, Illinois, the daughter of Elmer and Louise (Waterbury) Galor. She attended school in Polo and Mt. Carroll, Illinois. She graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the Class of 1936. Erma married John H. Stein on December 20, 1937 in Clinton, Iowa. John died April 12, 1977 in Savanna.
Erma was a past member of The Brethren Church in Wacker, Illinois and a past member of Savanna Moose Lodge, Savanna. Erma enjoyed ceramics and playing cards with her family and friends.
Erma is survived by a nephew, Robert (Mary Lee) Bogue of Reynolds, Illinois; one great niece, Lisa (Flint) Price; and two great nephews, Sean Bogue and Michael Bogue.
Erma is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; one son, Lawrence Elmer Stein; two brothers and one sister.
Marion P. Schreiner
Marion P. Schreiner, age 91, of Chadwick, Illinois, passed away, Friday, November 7, 2008 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, Illinois with reverend Melwyn Alagodi officiating. Burial well take place in Chadwick Cemetery, Chadwick. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the Church. Marion was born on March 24, 1917 the daughter of Christopher and Cora Emma (Schreiner) Geison in Chadwick, Illinois. She graduated from Chadwick High School Class of 1935 and later graduated Cosmetology School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1938. On February 17, 1940, Marion married Merlyn Donovan “Mindy” Schreiner in Chadwick, Illinois.
Marion farmed with her husband in the Chadwick area for over thirty years. Marion worked at Guenzler’s Dry Cleaners in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, was a clerk at Chadwick Grocery Store and sold Avon for thirty years. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, Carroll County Home Extension Organization, Chadwick Women’s Club, Hospice Volunteer, Carroll County Republican Women, and she was a Sunday School teacher from age fifteen to eighty years old. Marion was also active with the church in many other ways. She enjoyed spending her free time reading and doing embroidery work. Marion also loved to bake. Everyone expecially enjoyed her angel food cake and pies. Most important to Marion was spending time with her family.
Marion will be dearly missed by her two daughters; Darla Krzyzak of Middletown, New York and Angela (Morris) Harms of Rockford, Illinois; five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren; and a sister, Mildred Bogott of Chadwick, Illinois.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Merlyn and two brothers, Homer and Robert Geison.
Kyle Brown
Kyle Brown, age 92, of rural Thomson, Illinois died Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Mercy Living Center South, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna with Reverend Nancy Carr officiating. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Kyle was born March 10, 1916 on the family farm in Savanna Township, the son of Frank E. and Lydia Mae (Leavens) Brown. He attended the Timbuktu Country School. On June 12, 1951, Kyle married Ruth Strubb. This year they celebrated 57 years of marriage.
Kyle farmed his entire life near Thomson. He also operated the Spring Lake Resort, near Savanna, with his brothers for many years. He was a member of the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna, the Carroll County Farm Bureau, and a charter member of the Savanna Gun Club. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and gardening. Most of all, Kyle loved the time he spent with family.
Kyle is survived by his wife, Ruth of Thomson; a son, Bruce (Bruna) Brown of Oswego, Illinois; a daughter, Debra Gunnarsson of Savanna; and eight grandchildren, Kayla and Carrie Brown; Mikel, Kori and Rachel Brown, Christina (John) Mall, Jill and Erik Gunnarsson; a sister in-law, Charlotte Brown of Savanna; and several nieces and nephews.
Kyle was preceded in death by two sons, Greg and Mark Brown; three brothers, Frank, Wayne and Dick; two sisters, Gladys Voss and Rua Lawler; and both parents.
