Carroll County Farm Bureau

This week I have to get a short little vent in. I have many pet peeves, but my most perturbing one is being ignored! And I know I am not the only one who is having issues with this as many others have commented on it as well. I don't know if we as a society have gotten so busy, we cannot make time for others or what, but it is very frustrating to send an email, a letter, make a call, etc and have the person on the other end not respond to you. I know most of the time, we feel that we don't want to disappoint someone by having to tell them no, so we just figure not responding is the best option, but I feel we are better to be honest and tell a person no than we are to have just ignored them completely. We don't always need a yes we just need a response, an acknowledgement. I try to make a concentrated effort to respond to every request, letter, email, phone call, or whatever the form of communication may be.

This Friday, November 20, our office will be closed for the Girl's Day Out bus trip. We take this day to thank our COUNTRY Assistants and office staff for their hard work all year long. We do have some room left on the bus, if you did not get your reservation in. Just give our office a call.

Our offices will also be closed on Thursday, November 26 and Friday, November 27 in observance of Thanksgiving. We will open for regular business hours on Monday, November 30. Speaking of Thanksgiving, Illinois ranks 15 in the nation for Turkey production. I remember going to a turkey farm when I was young. It was next to or where my parents went to vote. I can honestly say turkeys kind of wig me out. I have never had a problem being around cattle or hogs or even jumping in the pasture with the bulls which is probably because I was raised with them, but keep the turkeys away!! The other day there were some wild ones here at the office around back where we park. Well I must wig them out also since they took off running when I got out of my vehicle.

This week invitations will be mailed for the Carroll County Farm Bureau Annual meeting to be held on Thursday, December 17. We have two directors in each of the three districts up for re-election. Running in District 1 are Leroy Getz and Leo Gelwicks, District 2 are Bobbi Janssen and Branden Alexander, and District 3 are Francis Snider and Nate Wiersema. Ed Livengood is going to stay on as Young Leader chair and Jan Appel as Women's Committee chair. Larry Alexander is running for his third year as President. This year's meeting will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Auditorium. It will consist of just the business meeting.

Don't forget Monday is the deadline to order your holiday fruit, nut, and fruit baskets. Forms are available on our website at www.carrollcfb.org.

Tomorrow, Thursday, November 19, our Ag in the Classroom Coalition, OCAP, is hosting a College Ag Day at the River Valley Complex in Leaf River. There will be 12 colleges who offer ag degree programs available for students in Carroll and Ogle Counties to visit with. We currently have over 100 students lined up to attend. We wanted to give students the opportunity to gather information and meet with a number of schools prior to prioritizing a list of those which they are very interested in. We hope to offer this program again next year to students. Information on the program was distributed out through the schools to send home with students.
