Jack Kromer, a Mt. Carroll native, hand carves rocking horses in the same manner as they were fabricated in the 1850's. His vision is to
create a high quality rocking horse which is a combination of fine hardwoods and detailed carving.
The Grand Opening of Kromer Rocking Horses, by wood sculptor, Jack Kromer, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at
the artist's new shop located at 117 N. Argyle St. (formerly North Grove Woodworking) in Lanark, Illinois. Senator Mike Jacobs (D-36, Moline) will attend
the ribbon-cutting at 11:00 am.
Kromer has been carving since 1981 and is now concentrating on creating fine rocking horses. Several local artisans contribute to the project
including Johnson Creek Hardwood in Chadwick, Signature Woodworking in Savanna, Rising Eagle Saddles in Pecatonica, and Sunlight Glass in Mt. Carroll.
"I am happy that Sen. Jacobs has agreed to attend the opening of my business. This allows us the opportunity to show him our creative energy
and entrepreneurship here in Carroll County," said the artist.
"Jack Kromer represents the best of what small-town America and northwestern Illinois have to offer," Senator Jacobs stated. "Not only is he
an entrepreneur, with his own business, but he also works in a craft that has a history dating back a century and a half. I am honored to be at the
ribbon-cutting for Jack's new shop and look forward to seeing his business grow as time progresses."
