We now have most of our nuts on hand! We have cashews, mixed nuts, pecan halves and pieces, and bridge mix. Stop by today before they are gone! And while you are here, why not check out all the new candle scents. The new candles have been flying off the shelves.
Ladies, mark your calendars now! The 2013 Women in Agriculture Conference has been set for Friday, March 22 at Jumer’s in Rock Island. We have been busy planning the conference and lining up speakers. This year we will kick off the conference with Erika Eckley. Erika is the Staff Attorney at the Iowa State University Center for Agricultural Law and Taxation. She graduated Order of the Coif from Drake University Law School, where she was Articles Editor of the Agricultural Law Journal. She has worked in private practice, as a judicial law clerk, and has been an adjunct professor at Drake Law School. She is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association and is admitted to practice in Iowa.
Common mistakes in agricultural estate planning and leasing will be the kick off topic. Ms. Eckley will discuss two important tools in all family agricultural businesses and how to avoid problems in their implementation. Ms. Eckley will discuss the importance of ongoing estate planning and some of the most common mistakes that can adversely affect these efforts. She will offer some tips and recommendations on how you can best avoid these problems. Ms. Eckley will also discuss the importance of ensuring all agricultural leases are in writing and identify some terms and conditions that should be included in farm leases.
We have designed this year’s program a little bit different than last year. We will have three breakouts at a time. Depending on how you chose the breakouts you attend, you can follow a “track”, meaning all three of your breakouts would be marketing focused for example. However you don’t have to follow any track at all and can pick one any breakout you want. Flyers will be out shortly. If you are on Facebook, you can follow us by searching Women in Agriculture Conference. If you would like to be on our email newsletter list for updates, please email me at carrollcfb@grics.net and let me know. It will be a day you won’t want to miss!
