Will The Rumors Be Dispelled or Substantiated Regarding EPC Football?
Even though EPC dominated the football season until the playoffs, rumors are flying rampant around town regarding Coach Asche’s possible termination for next season. What possible grounds could the schools have for considering such action?
Could it be the unfaltering positive reinforcement the players receive, even if they are having a bad night on the field? Maybe the tight unity and camaraderie he has commandeered from the kids? Did anyone really take a hard look at the other teams we played this season? Only a few of those teams displayed the same team unity as ours. Did you listen to what was being hollered by the other coaches? Did the kids from the opposing schools band together and play as a team? No! It is not just our talent as individual players that put us on a path to victory, it is the ability of our coach to bring the individuals together to play as a unit and learn to respect one another. In order to accomplish this task, the coach has to earn the respect of the players. Since Coach Asche has taken on this position, we may not have always won every game or agreed with every call, but even when we lost, it was as a team, not as individuals. Why do our boys play so hard? Because they WANT TO! They want to give 110% to our coach since he believes in them and always makes them feel like winners, even if they lose a game.
So I guess we have to ask the board, principal, superintendent and athletic director on what basis is this decision being made? Is this decision being made because of a personal vendetta? Did he forget to play someone’s son who is connected to the above mentioned decision makers? Can our coach even make football decisions without the fear of repercussions at every turn? There is not one incidence of inappropriate behavior, but all of a sudden its time to turn him loose. Is this decision best for the kids? Did anyone take the time to even ask them? After all, is it not their futures we are concerned about?
Granted, our son will not be playing for EPC next season since our home is up for sale. But Coach Asche’s leadership has not influenced our decision to move and we can only hope to put our son on a team with a head coach as good as him. Our decision was based on other high school coaches and athletic directors that do not have the kid’s best interest at heart but only their own personal gain at the top of their agenda. So why do we still keep these people employed and fire the good ones?

Two Sides of the Same Coin
Illinois Republican Party Chairman, Pat Brady had an interesting - if somewhat dissembling letter to the editor last week. In it, he stated that GM and Chrysler have not of yet paid back the taxpayers from the auto bail out. Yet here it is, in the New York Times: “ Chrysler paid back on Tuesday $7.6 billion in loans from the American and Canadian governments”, (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/25/business/25chrysler.html). Oh wait, let’s not forget - Chrysler was not obligated to pay back its United States loans until 2017. In a statement, President Obama said that the early repayment was further proof that government intervention in Detroit’s troubles was a prudent decision. GM has paid back 6.7 Billion of the auto bailout loan to the government. Yes, the government (we the people) still own stock in GM - and with record profits, I’d say that stock in no longer a drag but a value.
Mr. Brady, and in your letter you have - either the gall, or the ignorance to repeat an already proven lie (or should I say in your world-campaign message) that Chrysler is going to send our jeep producing jobs to China. Mr Brady - the CEO of Chrysler had to issue a statement denying this, after your illustrious candidate terrified current Chrysler workers into thinking their jobs were going to China (http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-250_162-57542594/chrysler-ceo-jeep-not-moving-to-china/a. )
Oh, and about Sensata. I’m sorry Mr. Brady - but you have some nerve. Bain Capital - yes that Bain Capital bought Sensata in 2010. The same Bain Capital that was founded by Mitt Romney and still functions today on his founding ideology - a video from 1985 in which Romney, describing Bain’s formation, showed how he viewed the firm’s mission. He explained that its goal was to identify potential and hidden value in companies - buy majority stakes in these businesses, and then “harvest them at a significant profit” within five to eight years.
The video was included in a CD-ROM created in 1998 to mark the 25th anniversa Bain & Company, the consulting firm that gave birth to Bain Capital.
Mr. Brady - Sensata was a profitable company. Mr. Brady, Sensata made record profits as a U.S. company in 2012.( RTTNews.com) - Sensata Technologies Holding N.V. (ST) reported that its third-quarter net income was $41.5 million, or $0.23 per share, up from $26.2 million, or $0.14 per share in the same quarter last year. (http://www.nasdaq.com/article/sensata-technologies-q3-profit-rises---quick-facts-20121023-00239). Mr Brady, the workers at Sensata are non-union. They are paid between $17.00 and $23.00 per hour, and since the Bain buyout, many of their jobs have been replaced by temporary workers who have no pension and no health insurance. Would that be an indication Bain did not want to spend that extra dollar to ensure hard working citizens of our country had the security of a decent wage and health care so as they did not have to worry about losing everything if they were struck down by an illness? Mr. Brady - have you bothered to actually speak with the Sensata workers who are losing their jobs? I have. These people are us - Americans. They have worked hard all their lives and only ask for the ability to keep the jobs they have, which has offered them the path to a good life in America. Mr. Brady, you are too busy critisizing those of us who are hurt by the destruction of the American life as we know it, to even consider what American life is like today.
And yet, Mr. Brady - you say that President Obama is to blame. China has been manipulating their currency since 2001. Private companies, like Bain have been taking advantage of this to reap more profits, yet it’s Obama’s fault? Perhaps if China did not have our vulture capitalists profit mongerers waiting in line to shut down our factories and ship them over to China while reaping taxpayer funded deductions in the process, maybe their manipulations wouldn’t be controlling how we live in America today. Yet in your shallow view of reality - it is Obama’s fault.
Mr. Brady, this letter will hit my local paper the day after the election. I don’t know where we will be at this time. I hope the people of the US are able to filter through the rhetoric and elect those who will represent the best of our interests. Unfortunately, your letter “Mr. President: Sensata Jobs Are Your Loss” is a classic mistatement to further an agenda that does not have the general welfare of our citizens in its message. It is a political manipulation to promote the power of a party that has lost touch with the everyday lives of Americans.
In the immortal words of George Costanza - “It’s not a lie, if you believe it.” How sad.
Publisher’s Note: There are many noted people on the web who say Chrysler has NOT paid back a good portion of government loans. Here are some links: http://blogs.ajc.com/kyle-wingfield/2011/05/25/with-repayments-like-chryslers-who-needs-debts/
The FACT about Sensata is that Romney has had no control over what Sensata does, nor should he - nor does the government have control over what a company does, nor should it. The fact is that there have been MANY U.S. corporations setting up shop in China. MANY jobs have been sent overseas for many years. This particular business in Freeport has been singled out for political reasons. Congressman Bobby Schilling and Cheri Bustos, who is running against him, have NOTHING to say about what ANY private business does. The national media knows this as well as I do, but propagate the distorted “facts” anyway. Even if you believe it, it’s still a lie.
Mount Carroll Christmas Gift and Food Drive
Your Mount Carroll Ministerial Association is asking for assistance for this year’s Christmas Gift and Food Drive to aid those who are in need. The fund drive also supports our efforts to provide aid throughout the year.
As in past years, the drive will consist of:
• Our Thanksgiving Service which will be held at the Mount Carroll United Methodist Church on November 18 at 7:00 pm. This will mark the opening of the fund drive.
• The Food and Gift drive which helps those in need of assistance. This has been very successful in past years, and with your help we can do it again. Gift tags will be available at the Thanksgiving Service and on the Giving Trees located around town.
• This night also marks the beginning of our 10th annual Mile of Coins collection. Watch for locations of the collection jugs placed around town.
Thanks to your generosity, through October we have been able to write 48 checks totaling $8,031. The breakdown is as follows; Food $599, Electric $2,728, Water $362, Housing $1,869, Heating $291, Gasoline $325, Medicine $34, Medical $163, Child Care $518, Miscellaneous aid of $386, and expenses of $755 covering ads announcing Christmas and Easter services and office needs to run this program.

Publisher’s Note: Normally, we do not publish Letters to the Editor that are not signed. But these were so nice, I couldn’t resist. Sometimes you have to toot your own horn!
I receive your newspaper in Morrison every week and read it thoroughly, I especially like the sports, and football articles written by Bill Popkin . . . I am sad the Morrison (Mustang) season is over, but look forward to reading about the team next year.

Where is the outrage? Where is the national media? Three years an active duty soldier, four more a member of an Infantry National Guard Unit, thirty years in law enforcement, twenty eight of those as an FBI Agent, an entire lifetime a proud American. Throughout those experiences one thing I’ve learned – if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, waddles like a duck, and smells like a duck, it’s probably a duck. Remember the commercial of years gone by, “Inquiring minds want to know”.
This takes me to the mystifying events following the seven hour long mortar and rocket attacks on our nation’s sovereign consulate in Benghazi, Libya on September 11, 2012 claiming the life of our Ambassador to Libya, J. Christopher Stevens, and three other brave Americans.
Those mystifying events are that for fourteen consecutive days our current administration to include the President of the United States, Barack Obama, our Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, the President’s Press Secretary, Jay Carney, and Ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice, continued to tout that it was a spontaneous attack caused by an evil and disgusting video (words of Ms. Clinton) against Muslims. I was mystified. This is September 11, are we sure it’s just a spontaneous reaction that goes on for seven hours with mortar and rocket fire killing four great Americans?
Wait a minute, other sources now confirm that this was a well planned highly organized attack with Al Qaeda in control and the administration knew this. But then again we killed Osama bin Laden, therefore Al Qaeda is dead or is it? Wait a minute Sacia you are a State Representative, why are you writing about an international incident? Deceit at any level of government is absolutely unacceptable. I see it at many levels, but this is the crown jewel.
You can argue that the administration didn’t know that this was a highly organized professionally coordinated planned attack, and for fourteen days there was never one question from the powers that be that this was a spontaneous response to a disgusting video.
Now that they are caught with their hand in the cookie jar and proven deceitful their response is, “well we just didn’t know”. If you didn’t know, why didn’t you tell us you just didn’t know? Simple, you thought you could deceive the American people so close to an election. This is politics in its very worst form. Sure smells like a duck to me.
