Scott Piehn, Division Manager for JCWIFI, announced the completed installation of an expanded wireless broadband internet antenna network in Hanover, and a wireless broadband internet antenna on Derinda Road near Elizabeth.

The Hanover antenna network implements new 'tree-penetrating' technology designed to provide a wireless signal to a wider range of customers including many who were previously restricted because of interference from trees and leaves. The new technology also delivers another reinforcement to the JCWIFI network that can be called upon in the event lightning damages a related tower.

"One of our goals has always been to design and manage a reliable internet network and make it available to as many people as possible," said Piehn. "This new installation at the top of the Hanover water tower goes a long way to achieving that goal. We now have excellent back-up capabilities for our clients in Carroll and Whiteside counties and a bigger coverage footprint."

The Derinda Road antenna features new technology that permits high-speed (broadband) internet access to homeowners in a natural valley that previously were limited to lo-speed dial up or costlier satellite service.

"We've made a pledge to ourselves that we were going to make hi-speed internet available to as many people as possible," Piehn said. "Our wireless network continues to grow nicely. This new antenna is another step in providing full coverage to JoDaviess county internet users. Thanks to Offenheiser Farms and their big Harvestore, our antenna is high enough that many more people can have access to high-speed service."

Wireless internet, or 'wifi', works similarly to over the air radio. A signal is transmitted from an antenna that is linked to a high speed internet connection. Often, the tranmitting attenna is mounted as high as possible to insure reception water towers and even harveststores are typical installation sites. The signal is received by business' and homeowners through a small receiver usually mounted on the roof of the home or building. Wifi also permits laptop owners with wireless capability to access the internet in wifi 'cells' in restaurants, offices and coffee shops.

JCWIFI currently serves over 1,500 clients in JoDaviess and Carroll counties with high speed wireless internet services. With this installation, JCWIFI covers almost 1,500 square miles of northwestern Illinois.

JCWIFI is part of Computer Dynamics, a Freeport, IL based provider of computer, networking, communication and diagnostic services. Computer Dynamics employs 15 technical and administrative staff members.
