Milledgeville falls to River Ridge/Scales Mound
ELIZABETH Host River Ridge/Sales Mound set the tone early on and defeated visiting Milledgeville 58-40 Friday night. River Ridge/Scales
Mound sprinted out to a 12-4 lead, grabbing the early momentum.
Whitney Kieffer attacked Milledgeville shortly after the opening tip. Kieffer finished with a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds. The
game's leading scorer and rebounder also recorded six assists and six steals.
Kieffer accounted for nearly half of the River Ridge/Scales Mound scoring. The talented floorleader convert a trio of three-point plays after driving
to the basket, scoring and getting to the free throw line and converting.
Brooke Wheelwright followed Kieffer in the RR/SM scoring column with seven points. Courtney Busch, Darcy Steffes, Carlene Decoster and
Erin Bradshaw scored four points apiece for the winning team.
Andrea Herin led Milledgeville with a team-high 14 points. Keali Engelkens followed with 11 points for the Missiles. Brianna Herin scored six
points and Taylor Kent tossed in four in Milledgeville's short effort.
Eastland Shootout
Eastland Edges Forreston
Eastland slipped past Forreston 63-62 Saturday in an early regular-season boys' high school basketball matchup between two longtime
rivals. The Cougars had a pair of scorers combine for over half of their points. Veteran Tyler Zumdahl paced Eastland with a team-high 20 points.
Tony Dunlap another veteran was the second-leading scorer for the Cougars. Zumdahl tossed in 18 points for the Eastland boys' basketball team.
The game was tight throughout, featuring several lead changes between the two teams.
Michael Schneiderman hit five three-point field goals and paced Forreston with a game-high 29 points.
Winnebago over Milledgeville
Milledgeville didn't fare as well Saturday. Chase Cross scored a game-high 20 points and Russ Fiori tossed in 16 to lead Winnebao to the 65-39 victory.
Kirk Engelkens, still making the transition from the gridiron over onto the hardwood, led Milledgeville with 15 points.
Thunder rolls over Stockton
In another area game, West Carroll also prevailed. The Thunder rolled past Stockton, winning 66-45. Jason Ferguson scored a game-high 24 points
for the Thunder, draining four three-pointers as his team prevailed. Brock Hawley led Stockton with 15 points. Hawley hit three three-pointers of his own.
LeWin 59 PC 39
Lena-Winslow defeated Pearl City 59-39. Adam Blair netted a game-high 18 points for victorious Lena-Winslow. For Pearl City, Cole Miller led
the way with 17 points.
