Dear Area Residents,
We are writing this letter to inform the public what is happening with the Savanna Times Theater, the only theater in Carroll County. To keep the theater open, we must “go digital” in only a matter of time. The production studios will no longer be making 35mm film. This has been an issue these last few months because fewer prints are available and the industry is changing.
Here are the facts: We need $12,000 just to get started, totaling $80,000 upon completion. This will allow us to go digital on both sides of the theater. We have $1,500+ of this already donated. There are programs available to help with financing but we cannot do it alone.
The bottom line is: We need your help! Please support the theater and the community by going to the movies, dropping off a donation in the donation canister at the theater, and/or attending future fundraisers that we will be having. Concessions are an important piece of the survival of the theaters. Come and enjoy (In memory of MaryAnn) MaryAnn’s famous popcorn - the best in town!
• Save time and gas. The nearest theater is over 40 miles away round trip.
• Low ticket prices. Our prices are well below the national average.
• Great movies that will only get better once we go digital!
• There are many fine restaurants in Savanna, and in the county and, surrounding areas. To name a few in Savanna that serve good food such as: New China Restaurant, Ralph G’s, Shivers, Manny’s, Hawg Dogs, Poopys, Subway, McDonald’s, KFC and Taco Bell as well as many bars that serve a good burger. Dinner and a Movie! What could be better?
The Times Theater is holding its own. Its been in the black and meets its financial obligations but it needs your help going digital. Our attendance is up. In August, we had 100 more patrons than the previous month. That amounts to about 5 more moviegoers per night; it doesn’t seem like much but it’s big to a theater.
We plan to hold fundraisers to help reach our digital goal. September’s event was “Junk in a Trunk.” Also, listen for weekly ticket specials sponsored by local merchants.
We want to thank everyone who has already donated to the digital cause - whether it was with cash donations, people donating their time with the Junk in a Trunk fundraiser or by just going to the movies. Thank you local movie goers! We also want to thank our local businesses for their contributions.
Again, thank you for all your donations, past and future! We can’t do it without you. Remember, it’s not only what you’re watching, but it’s also who you’re with. Hope to see you here.
