Alwood edged host West Carroll 44-43 Saturday in the opening game of the West Carroll Holiday Tournament.
West Carroll carried a 22-18 lead into halftime. Alwood, however, went out ahead in the third quarter and managed to slip past the Thunder.
Cameron Teel paced Alwood. Teel was the game's leading scorer, finishing with a game-high 24 points. Cody Curry collected nine points and
Luke Brandt pushed in seven for the Aces.
Alwood led West Carroll 37-30 at the end of the third quarter.
The game was very interesting late as the two teams battled for the win and swapped leads. Brandt hit a game-winning three-point field goal
for Alwood with 6.9 seconds remaining.
Dillon Prowant pushed in 13 points for the Thunder. Jaron Ferguson added seven points for host West Carroll.
Luke Ingersoll and Justin Ferguson helped to pace West Carroll. Ingersoll netted 12 points and Ferguson added nine for the Thunder.
West Carroll was due back in action Tuesday night versus Galena. The West Carroll-Galena tournament game ended too late to make this edition.
Eastland Defeats Fulton
In the third game of the West Carroll Holiday Tournament, Eastland won in convincing fashion, defeating Fulton 66-46.
The Cougar defense took over the game starting the second quarter. The Steamers were held to only two field goals until the last minute as
turnovers led to easy baskets and a 17-point halftime lead.
Tyler Zumdahl paced Eastland with 17 points. Zumdahl hit four-of-four shots from the free throw line and one three-point field goal.
Ben Delp also reached double figures for the Cougars, finishing with 11 points.
Reid Lessman and Tony Dunlap added nine points apiece for Eastland in the tournament tilt. Brad Dunlap tossed in eight points for the Cougars in
the triumph.
Eastland edged Fulton 15-14 in the opening quarter. The Cougars carried a 34-22 lead into the intermission.
Eastland limited Fulton to 10 or fewer points in the second and third quarters.
The Cougars outscored Fulton 15-10 in the third quarter.
In other West Carroll Tourney action, East Dubuque pounded the Unity Christian Knights from Fulton in the second game 59-34.
Pearl City handled Alexis United 44-28 in the late game. The Wolves used a balanced scoring attack to beat United. Six Pearl City players scored
five or more points, including PC leading scorer Collin Talbert who hit for seven.
