This past week we held our 94th Carroll County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting. Yes, we have been around since 1919. Over the course of those years, our organization has certainly grown and changed, however the mission has not. We are still here “Continuing to enhance agriculture and the quality of life in our county, through education, involvement, and leadership.” We have been very fortunate to have some dedicated leadership which has allowed for us to thrive as an organization.
This year, we experienced a number of changes on our board. One, I would like to thank Leroy Getz and Francis Snider for their many years of service as they have both retired from the board. Leroy finished his career with Farm Bureau with 47 years, serving 43 of those years as Vice-President. Francis was on the board for 27 years with 12 of them being the Carroll County Farm Bureau President. Their dedication has not gone unnoticed. Both gentlemen have served on various committees, attended statewide meetings, and been there whenever they were needed. Once again we thank them for all they have given to our organization.
At our County Annual Meeting last week, a new President was also elected. Larry Alexander has stepped down as President after six years. Larry has done an excellent job in being our leader these last six years and will be staying on the board to be a director. Ed Livengood is taking over at the reins of our organization. I am sure you have noticed all the involvement and leadership Ed has experienced as the Young Leader Chair, a role he has served since 2003. I am sure you also have seen the achievement he has personally made. He has participated in the district and state Young Leader Discussion Meet. This year he received Young Leader County Chair Award for our membership group. Ed and his wife Kali also will be representing Illinois at the American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting in San Antonio as the Young Leader Achievement Award winners.
Welcomed in as our new Young Leader Chair is Jeremy Flikkema. Jeremy has been an active member of the Young Leaders since I became manager in 2006. Also being welcomed to the Board of Directors is Dennis Morhardt from Savanna. We welcome Jeremy and Dennis to our board.
We just finished another successful holiday fruit, nut, and fruit basket program. A big thank you to the directors who helped up load the truck and all of those who assisted with the basket making. Jessica and I would have gone nuts without you all!
Just a reminder, our office is closed until Thursday, January 2nd when we will open at 7:30 a.m. We hope everyone has a happy holiday season!
