Hanover Township Board
Donates $10,000 To Hanover Library Building Project
Janice Steele, Hanover Township Supervisor, recently presented Dan Griffin, President of the Hanover Township Library Board of Trustees, with a check for $10,000 (photo) for the library’s building addition and remodeling project.
“The Hanover Township is pleased to be able to help the library with this project,” said Janice Steele. “The library is an integral part of the Hanover Township community, and this project to bring the 52-year old library into compliance with American with Disability Act standards is important.”
“When we began our funding quest,” said Griffin, “the Hanover Township Board was the first to respond with a pledge of $10,000 to the project. In fact, this $10,000 donation was instrumental in helping us get the Illinois State Library matching grant of $50,000. Janice had written a letter to the Illinois State Library citing the need for this project and that the Township Board had pledged $10,000. The grant committee was quite impressed by Janice’s letter and noted it specifically as they discussed the library’s application. So, we are extremely grateful to the Hanover Township Board for this donation and for all the assistance they have given us.”
The library has added a 630 square foot addition to the rear of the library which houses two handicapped and wheelchair accessible restrooms and the children’s department. Remodeling in the original building is for handicapped maneuverability around the entire library for accessibility to all materials and resources. The project also includes the installation of remote-controlled entry doors and an outside handicapped/wheelchair ramp at the rear exit.
Construction began on August 24, 2009, and is scheduled to be completed by February 19, 2010. To date, the library has raised $152,000 from grants, memorials, personal donations, and fundraising. Total project cost is $162,000. To make a donation, please contact Shari Farral, Library Director, at 815-591-3517.
