Cougars Drop Opener in Tournament
ERIE Eastland dropped an opening round game in the Warkins' Cardinal Classic Friday. But the Cougars weren't alone in the loss column. Warren
and Stockton two other area boys' high school basketball teams also dropped tournament games.
Wetherfield beat Eastland 56-36. The second quarter was Eastland's ultimate demise. Wetherfield outscored Eastland 17-5 in the second quarter
en route to the 20-point victory. Eastland was on the losing end of a 27-18 halftime score. The Cougars were out in front 13-10 before the disastrous
second quarter.
Eastland, with the loss, suffered its second straight setback. Tony Dunlap paced the Cougars with 13 points.
Orion defeated Warren 65-41. The Orion team managed to outscore Warren 42-16 in the second and third quarters combined. The Warriors
and Chargers were deadlocked in a 15-15 tie at the end of the opening quarter.
Jordan Nichols and Ryan Vick paced Warren with nine points apiece.
Morrison defeated Stockton 58-35.
The Mustangs owned each of the last three quarters of the tournament game versus Stockton.
Myles Zueger, Jared Hess and Josh Yaeger led Stockton with seven points apiece.
Eastland Handles Aledo in Warkins Tourney
ERIE Eastland gradually pulled away from Aledo Saturday in the Warkins' Cardinal Classic. The Cougars outscored Aledo 18-8 in the third quarter
en route to a 70-54 win.
Eastland set the tone early on in the boys' high school basketball tournament tilt. The Cougars outscored Aledo in each of the four quarters.
Eastland outscored Aledo 20-18 in the opening quarter and entered halftime out in front 37-32.
The dominating third quarter performance pushed Eastland out to a double-digit lead.
Tony Dunlap paced Eastland with a game-high 27 points. Dunlap and two teammates reached double figures in the scoring column. Tyler
Zumdahl followed with 21 points for the Cougars. Eastland fell to Wethersfield in the opening round of the Warkins tournament.
Seven different Eastland players provided scoring in the winning effort.
The Cougars connected on 30 field goals and hit nine-of-18 free throw attempts. Eastland, which hit five three-point field goals, also defeated
Riverdale 65-55 in the Warkins' Cardinal Classic.
Only one Aledo player reached double figures in the scoring column. The Aledo team featured eight different scorers.

Lady Missiles Defeat Morrison
Milledgeville dominated Morrison Saturday in a girls' high school basketball matchup. The Missiles limited Morrison to nine points or less
in each quarter en route to a convincing 45-27 win.
Brianna Herrin paced Milledgeville with a team-high 12 points. Milledgeville set the tone early on, gaining an early advantage over the Morrison team.
Forreston 52, Prophetstown 31
At Polo, Forreston defeated Prophetstown 52-31 for the Polo Holiday Tournament title.
Forreston won the Polo tournament championship thanks in part to some excellent long-range shooting. Holly Kortemeier connected on four
three-point field goals for the Cardinals. Kortemeier paced Forreston with a game-high 19 points in the championship game of the round-robin tournament.
The Cardinals posted a 3-1 record in the tourney. Forreston and Oregon had identical 3-1 marks in the holiday event. The Cardinals defeated Oregon in
a matchup earlier in the week. The Forreston-Oregon contest ultimately served as the tiebreaker.
