Kathleen Weber was the speaker at the November 29 meeting of the Blackhawk Hills Entrepreneur & Inventors Club at the Heritage Center in Lanark. She is the Coordinator of Business & Industry Training at the Business Institute of Highland Community College. The topic was Train to Know-Power to Grow. The Business Institute accomplishes this by a needs analysis and uses customized training and online classes.

The Business Institute has developed many diversified customized courses such as 10 hour OSHA training, Stress Management, Blue Print Reading and Building a Database in Access. They will be offering Mandarin Chinese in the Business Environment in March 2013.

There are also over 300 online classes. Most of these are 6 weeks long and only $89. These classes do not require purchasing books. You can take a course pre-test, view the first lesson and take the lesson 1 test no charge. A complete list of classes is available at www.ed2go.com/highland/.

They are setting up an Apprentice program with local manufacturers who have job openings but are having trouble finding qualified persons.

The Business Institute slogan is “If you can pronounce it, we can provide training for it.” For more information call 815-291-6981 or go to www.hccbusinessinstitue.com .
