Cougars Outbattle Forreston

Eastland Cougar Tony Dunlap puts up a jumper over Forreston’s Kody Michael in the finale at EHS Saturday. Tony led all Eastland scorers with twenty one points in the Eastland 61-44 win. (PA photo/Craig Lang)

In a game that was about as physical as it can get, the Cougars used a third quarter surge to down the Forreston Cardinals 61-44 in the finale of the Eastland Shootout. With the referees warning the players many times about the bumping and holding, there were bodies on the floor much of the game.

The Cougars held a slim 28-22 half time lead, but broke the game open with a sixteen to four third quarter advantage. The big blows came with Tony Dunlap and brother Brad along with team mate Reid Lessman knocking down big three pointers to open things up.

The fourth quarter proved to be pretty even but the Cardinals could not overcome that third quarter barrage. Tony Dunlap led the Cougars with twenty one points, while Collin Macomber added fourteen. Kody Michael was the scoring leader for Forreston with twelve.

IHSA Legislative Commission Votes To Place 8 of 15 Proposals On Annual Referendum Ballot

Eight of the fifteen proposals submitted to change the IHSA Constitution and By-laws were placed on the annual referendum ballot by the Legislative Commission at it’s meeting on Nov. 23. The ballot containing the proposals will be available online to IHSA member schools in the IHSA Schools Center. The deadline to submit the online ballot is midnight, Dec. 23. The ballots will be tabulated and the results posted on Jan. 7. A simple majority of votes cast on each proposal will determine whether it passes.

A summary of a few proposals follows. Proposal 1 - provides that a non-boundaried public school’s actual enrollment, rather than the school’s multiplied enrollment, be used to determine eligibility for a coop. The multiplier would still be used to determine the classification of the coop.

Proposal 3 - allows multiple-school activities sponsored by organizations such as the Illinois Coordinating Council for Career and Technical Student Organizations or the Illinois Association of Student Councils to begin as early as 8:00 am on a school day.

Proposal 5 - provides that, for a student in a multiple high school district to be eligible with regard to residence at a boundaried public school where his or her parent teaches, the student shall be eligible with regard to residence.

Proposal 8 - provides for a process by which a non-boundaried school may apply to have the 1.65 enrolment multiplier waived. Such a process would be established by the IHSA Board of Directors with input from a subcommittee comprised of members of IHSA staff and the IHSA Legislative Commission.

Proposal 9 - removes the prohibition on participation in boys and girls basketball tournaments held during the week of IHSA boys or girls basketball regional tournaments.
