hartman_burkholder awards.tif

During the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Clinic and Hall of Fame Dinner on Saturday, January 21, 2012, Eastland High School Baseball Coaches each received high honors.

Head Coach, Weston Burkholder, (right) received the Class 1A Area Coach of the Year Award in recognition of the team’s Class 1A State Runner-Up finish in 2012.

Dale Hartman, Eastland Varsity Assistant Coach, (left) was inducted into the IHSBCA Hall of Fame in recognition of his coaching at Byron High School from 1992 to 2007. He took over a struggling program, and he had just one losing season in 1992 before his teams put together 15 straight winning campaigns. In his 16 seasons, his teams compiled a 314-147-1 record, good for a .680 winning percentage.

Coach Hartman’s teams won two sectional championships, reaching the Elite 8 in both 1995 and 2001. His 1997 team reached the Sweet 16. In 1995, the Tigers finished 2nd in the state, losing to undefeated Roanoke-Benson in the Championship Game.

Stockton held a four to two first quarter lead and led thirteen to eight at the half. A fourteen to three third quarter put Stockton up twenty seven to eleven going into the fourth and the Lady Blackhawks again put up fourteen points to Le-Win’s eleven to take the easy win. The Lady Thunder were within fifteen points (40-25) just before the half and I believe we had River Ridge a little worried. Their coach did not call off his press for three quarters, so I knew we had them a little rattled. Once again, we were led by junior Ieshia Larson with eleven points and eight rebounds. Also, I am getting really comfortable with my bench players and feel confident playing them at any time. The reserves played almost half of the game and kept us in it. Freshman Abby Maike was especially impressive, scoring four points and playing a position she has never played before. Sophomore Tre Baisden added two points, three rebounds and two assists. Senior Salina Baltierra ran the offense well, as usual. A really good game.” River Ridge/Scales Mound also won the preliminary contest 57-18.
