Cornelia “Cora” Hartman, age 94, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. A funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, with Pastor Lynne Matthews of the Hanover United Methodist Church, Hanover, Illinois officiating. Burial will be in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. A Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Cora’s memory to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home 1006 N. Lowden Road, Mt. Carroll, Illinois 61053. Cora was born on February 25, 1914, in Albany, Illinois, the daughter of John and Jennie (Newendyke) Voss. On August 22, 1933, Cora married Willard A. Hartman in Fulton, Illinois. Willard died June 21, 1996 in Clinton, Iowa.
Cora was a homemaker and worked in Savanna in many homes as a house cleaner. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Clinton, Iowa. She enjoyed helping her husband with woodworking. Cora loved embroidering, word books, cooking, reading and walking everywhere. Most of all Cora enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
Cora is survived by two daughters, Cora Mae Stricker of Savanna, Sharon Kay Orth of Hanover, Illinois; four sons, Paul (Marilyn) Hartman of Savanna, Kenneth (Carolyn) Hartman of West Columbia, South Carolina, Richard Hartman of Savanna, William (Marisa) Hartman of Savanna; thirteen grandchildren; thirty one great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren.
Cora is preceded in death by her parents; husband Willard; two infant sons, Willard Jr., Rex Allen; five brothers, Harold 1921-1980, James, Jacob, Seymour, Harry 1917-1918; six sisters, Winnie, Esther, Henrietta 1919-2003, Pauline, Jeanette, Henrietta 1915-1918.
Carlos Randecker
Carlos Randecker, age 76, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, February 7, 2009, at his home in Mt. Carroll. A memorial service will be
held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 14, 2009, at the Mt. Carroll Church of God, with Pastor Rick Zickefoose officiating. In lieu of flowers, a
memorial has been established with Mercy Hospice and the American Cancer Society, or to a memorial of your choice.
Carlos was born February 10, 1932, in Woodland Township, Illinois, the son of Theodore and Ora (Sisler) Randecker. Carlos attended rural schools
and graduated from Mt. Carroll High School in 1950. Carlos married Catherine Ross in 1950. Carlos served in the Illinois National Guard for three and a
half years. Carlos worked for local contractors and owned and operated R and I Construction in Mt. Carroll for more than thirty years. Carlos held
various offices in the Mt. Carroll Church of God where he was a member for over fifty years.
Carlos enjoyed his family, friends, winters in Texas, traveling, cabinetry, hunting, fishing, and helping others.
Carlos is survived by his wife Catherine of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; seven children, Jean Cooper of Newfield, New Jersey, Joan (Russell) Hartman of
Mt. Carroll, Susan (Gary) McMillin of Decatur, Illinois, Sharon Schultz of Freeport, Illinois, Jerry (Carol) Randecker of Kewanee, Illinois, Linda
(Allen) Pauley of Holiday, Florida, and Karen (Jeff) McDearmon of Morrison, Illinois; 19 grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren;
and one step great grandchild; five sisters, Arlene Steen of Rockford, Illinois, Loretta (Robert) Schaut of Moravia, Iowa, Elizabeth Rath of Mt. Carroll,
Jane (Gary) Cook of Stockton, Illinois, Janet Haas of Stockton, and one brother, Larry (Sue) Randecker of Mission, Texas.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, one great grandchild, and three brothers.
Lucille E. Holmes
Lucille E. Holmes, age 97 of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at Carroll County Good Samaritan Center, Mt. Carroll.
A Graveside Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2009 at the Lanark City Cemetery, Lanark, Illinois. Memorials may

Lucille was born on February 22, 1911 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur A. and Clara M. (Smith) Calkins. She graduated from high
school and later attended Shimer College, Mount Carroll. Lucille married Dr. Harold H. Holmes on February 23, 1931 in Chadwick, Illinois. Harold died
on December 19, 1995 in Mount Carroll.
Lucille was a homemaker; her greatest pride in life was taking care of her family. She was a past member of the Daughters of the American
Revolution. She was a talented artist and enjoyed oil and watercolor painting. Most of all, Lucille loved spending time with her family and friends.
Lucille is survived by two sons, Ronnie Holmes of Freeport, Illinois and Hoyt (Karen) Holmes of Mount Carroll; one daughter, Vicki (Gary) Imel
of Chadwick, Illinois; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; one daughter, Nancy; and one sister Marie Greenawalt.
John A. Byvick
John A. Byvick, 75, of Milledgeville died Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford. He owned and operated
Byvick's Service Station, Milledgeville, for 33 years, and at the time of his death operated Byvick's Auto Sales.
Mr. Byvick was born June 15, 1933, in Sterling, the son of Frank and Ida (Stern) Schreiner. He was a Korean War veteran. He married
Louise McFadden on Feb. 13, 1954, at St. Mary Church, Sterling.
Survivors include his wife; seven children, Mark (Laurie) Byvick, Cynthia Chapman, James (Cindy Lou) Byvick, and Johnna Byvick, all of
Milledgeville, Rosemarie Coon of Ruidoso Downs, N.M., Peter (Christine) Byvick of Dixon, and Robert (Christina) Byvick of Sterling; a sister, Frances Kay
McKinnon of Dixon; 16 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and two grandsons.
The memorial service was Jan. 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Milledgeville, with Kathy Burkheimer, pastor, officiating. There was no
visitation. Arrangements were completed by Russell-Frank Funeral Home, Lanark.
