The Women’s Committee is sponsoring a blood drive with the American Red Cross here at the office on Friday, February 21 from noon until 5 p.m. If you have not given, now is the time to give. Appointments can be made by calling our office at 815-244-3001 or emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you prefer to walk in as you are unsure what time works best for you, feel free to stop by anytime. Based on past history, I can tell you the best time to walk in is between 2 and 4.
Well the much anticipated Super Bowl is over again for another year. I have to say what a disappointment. I didn’t have any strong feelings on who I wanted to win as I don’t mind either team. I just wanted a good game, which didn’t happen! Even for the Seahawk fans, I think you were anticipating a better game too! Now, we wait till baseball season starts. I hope winter turns around or it will seem like forever till spring training! It wasn’t the year for my Chiefs, so I am not even going to go into baseball season thinking it is the year for the Cubs!
Our legislators have kicked off their legislative year. As we watch what develops in 2014, we ask that you consider getting involved in FB ACT. FB ACT is the Farm Bureau Agricultural Contact Team. Here’s something you already know… every day, politicians and regulators make decisions that impact the way you farm. Here’s something you may have overlooked though… politics have changed - a lot! Don’t feel discouraged. You can take back your influence in Washington, Springfield, and even your own backyard with Illinois Farm Bureau’s FB ACT program.
FB ACT started as a group of men and women who had an interest in the legislative process. That used to work. Today, your voice can easily be drowned out by others speaking out against you.
When you join FB ACT, you are expected to do two things: vote and respond to action requests by emailing or calling your elected officials on key agricultural issues. Your involvement in additional activities will help to build your relationship with your elected officials and make these tasks easier, but most find these two tasks to be pretty simple ways to protect their farms. The FB ACT program also helps you find a comfortable, effective way to become an advocate with POW! Maybe it’s emailing your legislator after you’ve put the kids to bed or speaking about an agricultural issue to your church group. Contact our office at 815-244-3001 or via email at email@example.com to get involved in FB ACT.
Tonight, February 12th at Barnacopia in Polo, we are co-sponsoring an On the Road Presentation by Kevin Rund, Senior Director of Local Government with Illinois Farm Bureau. If you did not RSVP, but would still like to come, please let me know today! The program starts at 7 p.m. We should have plenty of handouts to include you. With all the rules and changes, it is good to get a refresher. I know it helps me when I get phone calls on transportation items.
