Catheryn L. Richard, 81 yrs. old, of Lanark passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014, at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll.
She was born on July 23, 1932 at Savanna, a daughter of John and Lenora (Bills) Stewart. Catheryn married David Richard on Nov. 15, 1950 at Menominee, Il. She enjoyed gardening and craft work.
Survivors include her children, David W. (LeAnn J.) Richard of Mt. Morris, John (Peggy) Richard of Polo, Catheryn (Marlin) Sweitzer of Lanark, Eddie (Terry) Blair of Milledgeville, Mary G. (David G.) Toepher of Pearl City, Edward (Debbie) Richard of Rock Falls, Deb Oltmanns of Rockford, and Linda Richard of Rochelle, her grandchildren, DeAnn J. Richard, Mike (Stephanie) Sweitzer, Chad Sweitzer, Jessica Sweitzer, Demi Blair, Dani Blair, Talia Richard, Alyse (Jason)Thibodeau, Heather (Eric) James, Randi (Austin) Webb, Rashad Caldwell, and Mya Nelson, her great grandchildren, Brady Sweitzer, Chloe Sweitzer, Hadley James, Harper Thibodeau, and Zion Caldwell, her brothers and sisters, Louise Weaks, Everett Stewart, Betty Stewart, Fred Stewart, Glenn Stewart, and Robert Stewart and their families, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1996, her son-in-law, Steve Oltmanns, and her brother Bill Stewart.
Services will be on Wed. Feb. 19, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark with her brother, Everett Stewart, officiating. Burial will be in the Lanark Cemetery. Friends may call after 12 noon on Wed. at the funeral home until the time of service.

Allen C.Van Brocklin
Allen C.Van Brocklin was a farm boy, who loved being outside. Allen entered into eternity on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Society in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, at the age of 82. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren in rural Lanark, Illinois. Burial will take place in Zion Cemetery, rural Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. Allen was born July 7, 1931, the son of Charles and Elsie (Shippy) Van Brocklin on the family farm rural Lanark. He attended Lanark High School and graduated with the Class of 1950. He married Catherine Butt on June 1, 1952 at the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren with Reverend Merle Hawbecker.
Allen farmed all of his life. He raised livestock and planted crops. His true passion was tending to his sheep and watching them be born. He also worked for Moltman and Smith, which later became Bocker’s in Mt. Carroll as a mechanic and a handyman. He was a member of the FFA and Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren. Allen treasured his time traveling all over the United States and Canada, camping, scrapping metal, and going to farm auctions to visit his friends and neighbors, and attending Shannon’s Homecoming Parade to visit with Classmates.
Allen will be dearly missed by his wife, Catherine of Elizabeth, Illinois; four sons, John (Cindy) Van Brocklin of Mt. Carroll, Willie (Anita) Van Brocklin of Elizabeth, Eddie (Kathy) Van Brocklin of Mt. Carroll, Kevin Van Brocklin, Elizabeth; eight grandchildren, Amber, Allen, David, Dusty, Brandy, Marcianna, Patricia, Dustina; three great grandchildren, Sebastian, Xander, Ruth; one brother, Gary (Lisa) Van Brocklin of Freeport; two sisters, Shirley (Bing) Gossett of Romeoville, Illinois, and Sharon (Rex) Angle of Lanark. Allen is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alvin and his beloved dog Foxy.

Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Morris, age of 90, died Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at HCR Manor Care, Davenport, Iowa. A visitation will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014, at Law Jones Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 21, 2014, at 10:30am at Law Jones Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery.
Beneta B. Lawton-Folk, age 87 of Savanna and formerly of Fulton, IL, died Monday, February10, 2014 at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA. A funeral service was held Friday, February 14, 2014 at the Fulton Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with a visitation on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Fulton Chapel – Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment was at Fulton Township Cemetery, Fulton, IL.
