Gwendolynn Ann Asay

Gwendolynn Ann Asay, age 78, of Lanark, Illinois died Tuesday, February 9, 2010. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Shannon, Illinois with Father Michael J. Bolger as Celebrant. Burial will be in Lanark Cemetery. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12, at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois with a Scripture Wake Service held at 3:30. A memorial fund has been established in Gwen’s memory. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com.

Gwen was born August 5, 1931 the daughter of Donald W. and Marcella (Hartman) Hanna, in Mt. Carroll. She was a graduate of Mt. Carroll High School. On February 10, 1951, Gwen married Robert Jack Burkholder in Savanna, he passed away February 24, 1974. On January 4,1980 she married Guy H. Asay.

Gwen was a Bookkeeper for Carroll Service Company in Lanark for twenty-nine years. She enjoyed being a homemaker, baking delicious pies, cooking, dancing, listening to music, card club and especially being with family and friends.

Gwen will be dearly missed by her husband of thirty years, Guy of Lanark; one son, Robert Scott Burkholder of Lanark; two daughters, Debra (Kevin) Miller of Lanark and Lori (Raymond) Warner of Madison, Alabama; one stepson, Dennis (Gloria) Asay of Mt. Carroll; four grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great grandchildren and seven step-great grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Hanna Davis of Marion, Iowa and Pamela Davis Zinanni of Rock Falls, Illinois; and one brother, Kim (Vicki) Davis of Sylvania, Ohio.

Gwen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Jack Burkholder; step-daughter, Marilyn Asay Gempeler; brother in-law, Rolland Davis; and step-father, Richard Davis.

Margaret Newcomer

Margaret L. Newcomer, 92, formerly of Lanark, IL, died on February 4, 2010 her loving daughter by her side. She is survived by her daughters Anne and Jean, her son John, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Margaret was an avid golfer, world traveler and community and church volunteer who never missed an opportunity to put on her dancing shoes. She was a hardworking farmer’s wife, loving mother and grandmother, who took pride of the fact that her grandson, John C Newcomer continues to expand and maintain the family farm. Farming was her lifeblood and also of her husband, Delbert.

A memorial service will be held at 11:30AM on February 20th at the Lanark United Methodist Church, 405 E. Locust Street, Lanark, IL. All attendees are invited to attend a light lunch following the ceremony in the church basement. If you plan to attend, please also plan on sharing a memory in her honor at the service. Leta E. Gerbrick

Leta E. Gerbrick, 93, of Lanark died on Friday February 12, 2010 at Pinecrest Manor in Mt. Morris. She was born on May 20, 1916 in Savanna to Glenn and Blanche (Frizzel) Gunn. In 1936, Leta married Walter Gerbrick.

Leta and her late husband farmed near Chadwick.

She is survived by one daughter; Mary A. Rippy of Lanark, seven grandchildren; Jamie (Bill) Walker of Abingdon, IL, Kerry (Ann) Rippey of Pearl City, Dan (Carol) Rippy of Forreston, Brad Rippy of Savanna, Karen (Tim) Cochran of Sterling, Doug Rippy of Lanark and Patrick Rippy of Lanark, great grandchildren; Jordan Walker, Ryan Loring, Tim Cochran Jr., Brandon Cochran, Samantha Cochran, Tiara Rippy, and Natasha Rippy, nine great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son-in-law, four brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday Feb. 16, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark with Rev. Herb Bollman of the Faith Reformed Church officiating. Interment will be at the Lanark Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 1:00 P.M. until time of service on Tuesday. A memorial fund has been established in her memory.

Mary A. Real

Mary A. Real, age 74 of Mount Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, February 8, 2010 at FHN Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. A funeral mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010 at Saints John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mount Carroll. A visitation will be held from 9:00 - 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 12, 2010, prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Sterling, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established in Mary’s memory.

Richard Dickman

Richard Charles Dickman, age 86, of Savanna, Illinois, died Thursday, February 11, 1010 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with Rev. Larry Thomson officiating. Burial will follow in St. John The Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 15, 2010 at the Funeral Home.

Floyd E. Frederick

Floyd E. Frederick, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Burial will be in the Lanark City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God.
