Kirtland E. Lamb, 85, of Lanark passed away Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital , Chicago, Illinois from complications of a brain aneurysm.
He was born November 27, 1926 in Cordova, Illinois, the son of Ora C. and Gertrude (Tucker) Lamb. He was educated in the Williams School in Cordova. He moved to Shannon, Illinois with his father in 1942 when they bought land near there. Kirtland was united in marriage to Alice Veach on September 28, 1958 in Lanark, Illinois. She died September 2, 1999.
Kirtland farmed in the Shannon area until he retired , then kept busy mowing yards and working on tractors. He also loved wrestling and watching FOX news to keep up with what was happening in the world when he was not enjoying the outdoors. Mention Oliver tractors and he would have several stories to tell you.
He is survived by two daughters; Barbara (Jeff) Bocker of Shannon and Debra Lamb of Lanark. One brother, John (Marilyn) Lamb of Silvis, Illinois. His constant companion, Flavion the cat, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles and sister Wilma Glazier, one sister in infancy and two brothers in infancy, Robert William and Rolland James.
A funeral service for Mr. Lamb will be Wednesday, 11:00 A.M. in Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of service at Burke-Tubbs. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Freeport.
Margaret M. Williams, age 87, of Milledgeville, died Sunday, February 12, 2012 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.
Margaret was born January 6, 1925 in Milledgeville the daughter of J. Melville and Grace (Zugschwerdt) McKean. She married C. Richard Williams on June 23, 1946 at the Milledgeville United Methodist Church. She attended Bradley University in Peoria and taught school in Milledgeville and Fort Dodge, Iowa. Later, she was a freelance news and feature writer for area newspapers for more than 46 years. Her interests included traveling, quilting, family history and antiquing. She donated her time one afternoon each week to tutor children in the Milledgeville Elementary School.
She compiled an extensive genealogy of her and her husband’s families and wrote a history of the Zugschwerdt family in conjunction with her niece, Jan McKean. A source of great pride to her was a plaque presented to her on her birthday by her nieces, Jan, Kay and Barb, to commemorate the achievement of having the family farm designated as a Centennial Farm. The farm on which she was born and raised has remained in the same family for more than 100 years. Margaret also has a devoted niece, Deb, who shared many of her same interests. Margaret also wrote a history of the Milledgeville United Methodist Church and helped write a history of Milledgeville that was donated to the Milledgeville Library. She was a key contributor to the establishment of the Milledgeville History Club which meets at the library weekly.
Margaret and her husband traveled to all fifty states, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. She enjoyed tutoring Hispanic children when she and her husband spent winters in Texas.
She was an active member of the Milledgeville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women as well as Carroll Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution. Just this year, she was awarded the Excellence and Community Service Award given by the Carroll Chapter of the DAR.
Survivors include her children, James (Kathy) Williams of Milledgeville, Gayle (Rick) Evans of Rock Falls and Kevin (Karen) Williams of Bartlett; seven grandchildren, Andrea (Tim) Scott of Bradford, Shannon (Mark) Setchell of Yorkville, Marin Williams of Milledgeville, Shawn Williams, Erica Williams, Corey Williams and Logan Williams all of Bartlett; eight great grandchildren, Bailey Knapp, Delanie Knapp, Garrett Scott, Connor Scott, Natilee Setchell, Isabella Pena, Alexander Chaffee and Zoe Setchell; and many nieces.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one brother, Robert McKean; and one sister, Carol Davis.
Funeral services will be Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Milledgeville United Methodist Church with Reverend Dan Sturtevant officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 9:00 – 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will be at South Elkhorn Cemetery, rural Milledgeville.
Memorials have been established to the Milledgeville/Chadwick Food Pantry and the Milledgeville High School Scholarship Program.
Arrangements were completed by the McDonald Funeral Home in Milledgeville.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll with Pastor Teri Lafferty officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Funeral Home. Memorials in lieu of flowers for the Mt. Carroll Ambulance Association and the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church.
