Julia B. Mills, 96, passed away February 24, 2010 at the Lena Living Center, Lena, IL. Julia was born on November 20, 1913 in Austin, MN to Edmond and Irma (DeVriendt) Vervaecke. Julia married Louis Schroeder in 1934 and then she married Philip Mills in 1951. Julia worked for the Gantt’s Food Store until she retired. She was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lena, IL, and enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
Julia is survived by: 4 children; Ernie (Anita) Schroeder of Erie, Jane (Dale) Workman of Morrison, Phyllis (Dennis) Potter of Stockton, Paul (Colleen) Mills of Freeport. 9 grandchildren: Todd( Renee) Schroeder, Terry( Rhonda) Schroeder, Joey(Peggy) Dersham, Tom (Debbie) Dersham, Stephanie(Steve) Houzenga, Bob (Becky) Potter, Jennifer (Jason) Barklow, Brandon (Shea) Mills, Justin (Amy) Mills. 15 great grand children, 7 great great grandchildren, 13 step grand children, 16 step great grandchildren, 2 sisters: Berniece Ballard of Prophetstown, and Bertha Gabriel of East Moline, 1 sister in law: Emma Vervaecke of Morrison
She is preceded in death by her: parents, husbands, 1 son Johnny Schroeder, 1 step great granddaughter Amanda, 3 brothers: Frank, Emil & Donald, 1 sister Mary Meier.
Funeral Service will held on Saturday February 27, 2010 at 1:30 PM at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lena, IL.
Visitation will be from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at the Leamon Funeral Home, Lena, IL.
Officiating the service will be Rev. Rick Bader
Interment will be at Lena Burial Park, Lena, IL
A memorial has been established for Hospice and St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Floyd E. Frederick
Floyd E. Frederick, age 88, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at home. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God with Reverend George Reser officiating. Burial will be in the Lanark Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Mt. Floyd loved being a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather. He also loved farming. He was born in Freedom Township, north of Mt. Carroll, the son of Leslie H. and Lucy E. (Morhardt) Frederick. Growing up on a family farm, he attended the Sage Country School. As a boy he would often run his traps on the way to and from school. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing, which stuck with him all of his life. When Floyd was a young man he worked at the farm where he met his bride to-be, Ardith Klenz. Floyd and Ardith were married June 1st, 1947 in Lanark. They have celebrated sixty-three wonderful years.
Floyd farmed for many years near Mt. Carroll. He also worked as a Pioneer Seed Representative for eighteen years. Floyd was a member of the Mt. Carroll Church of God, where he served on the Building Committee and also as a Church Deacon. In 1992, Floyd and Ardith moved into Mt. Carroll and Floyd stayed active with the family farm until 2008.
Floyd will be dearly missed by his wife, Ardith of Mt. Carroll; a daughter, Gloria (Dennis) Asay of Mt. Carroll; three sons, Francis (Karen) Frederick of Rock Falls, Duane Frederick of Freeport, and Marvin (Carla) Frederick of Mt. Carroll; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; three sisters, Bernice Maszk, Shelvy (Dale) Endress and Marie Frederick, all of Mt. Carroll; a brother, Carl Frederick of Rock Falls; three sister in-laws, Darline Frederick, Frances Frederick and Betty Geesey; and a brother in-law, Donald Zimmerman. Floyd is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Virginia Zimmerman; and four brothers, Sherm, Harvey, Leo and Dean.
Bernadine Morris
Bernadine Morris, 105, of Lanark, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Feb. 17^th , 2010 at Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll, where she resided the last seven years.
Bernadine was born on February 2, 1905 in Lanark, the daughter of Howard and Elnora (Grisinger) Cunningham. Bernadine graduated from Lanark High School in 1923. On March 5, 1932, Bernadine married Robert L. Morris in Lanark. Robert passed away on June 16, 1989
Bernadine was much more than a homemaker. She loved her rose garden and doing needlepoint and crewl work. She made many beautiful items for the Methodist women’s annual Bazzar. She enjoyed playing bridge with a wonderful group of ladies.
Bernadine’s first love was her grandchildren, she and Bob spent many hours attending cattle shows during the summer and athletic events during the school year.
Surviving is her daughter; Susan (Clark) Miller of Lanark, four grandchildren; Sara Shetter of Shannon, Robert (Susan) Shetter of Sterling, JoAnne (Rod) Guentner of Lanark, and Deanna (Tom) Ames of Lanark, seven great-grandchildren; Chase, Ty, and Marcus Shetter, Cordell and Sydney Guentner and Erykah and Isabella Ames. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, daughter Mary Ann, two sisters, Mary and Sarabel, and two brothers, John and Frank.
A private family graveside service will be held at Lanark Cemetery. Pastor Kathryn Ling will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name. Arrangements were completed by the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark.
