I just spent the last hour stocking shelves over at Shaw’s IGA. No, I didn’t get a new job, I was picking up the mess from our Food Check-out Shopping Spree. We invited all three of our school superintendents to partake in a 90 second shopping spree with all the products being donated to the food pantry that serves their district. Last year was the first year we held a shopping challenge. We had Sharon Hook who was county board chair at the time and Jeff Doran our County Sheriff participate. This year we chose school superintendents since there are three of them along with three food pantries. Unfortunately a family emergency kept Mr. Mathers from attending, so Mr. Lamb from West Carroll stepped up to the plate for the challenge. Mr. Hansen represented Eastland and Mr. Webb represented Chadwick-Milledgeville.
After their quick briefing on how the challenge was going to work, items started flying. I could not believe how much they could collect in the 90 seconds. I also couldn’t believe how long 90 seconds seemed! When all was over, there were a total of 761 items in eight carts for a total value of $2403.82. Wow was all I could say! I do need to say a Huge THANK YOU to our participants. They did a great job and I am sure the food pantries will greatly appreciate their donations.
There is a big smile on my face today. You know spring will be coming soon, when you have tickets to a Cubs game! Even better yet when we have a full bus going and it is to Wrigley! I haven’t been to a Cub’s game since I was about 14 or so. My grandparents used to take me for my birthday. It has actually taken me till last year to get my husband to watch a baseball game. When I was 12, I spent my time watching Cub’s games on t.v. and kept “stats” at home. Yes, I was, or some may argue still am, a dork. But I promise not to embarrass anyone if you want to join us. I am actually quite sad my favorite player has been traded.
We are taking our trip on Friday, July 3. The bus will leave the Farm Bureau parking lot at 9 a.m. and be returning approximately 7:30/8 p.m. Cost is $70 for members and $75 for non-members. We still have spots to the Fair Oaks Dairy Tour on Friday, March 20. We will be leaving the north end of the Eastland parking lot in Lanark at 6:30 a.m. and return around 6:30 p.m. For those of you who do not know, Fair Oaks Dairy is owned by relatives of AJ Bos who has been stuck in a world of controversy up in JoDaviess County. Of the people I have talked with who have been to the dairy, they say it is quite impressive. It is not your typical dairy, yet it is. If you are interested in joining us, contact our office at 244-3001 or print the information off of our website at www.carrollcfb.org.
Spring candle scents are now in stock and going fast. Stop out today to get your favorites.
