Eastland WYSE Team Advances to Sectional Competition

The Eastland High School WYSE (Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering) team claimed 3rd Place honors in an Academic Challenge on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at Highland Community College in Freeport.

“Eastland’s 3rd place showing in their regional qualifies them for the Sectional competition on March 13th at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb,” said Sarah Spears, EHS Math Teacher. “Students participated in a variety of academic areas including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Engineering Graphics, English, Math and Physics.”

Members include Adam Blair, Cayn Boeke, Casey Fritz, Blake Gordon, Devin Hartman, Megan Janssen, Kim Johnson, Matt Keppen, Katherine Murphy, Ramsay Truckenmiller, Timmy Vandenburgh, and Sam Woessner. The students are recommended by the teacher that teaches the specific subject area. They practice by studying previous tests.

“Casey Fritz and Adam Blair tied for 3rd in Computer Science and Matt Keppen received a 3rd in math,” Spears added.
