JUNE 6-16. For the first time ever, TLP presents the ultimate dance musical that changed the face of Broadway, winning the Pulitzer Prize, 9 Tony Awards and running for an unprecedented 6,137 performances. A Chorus Line tells the stories of the unsung heroes of the theatre world–the chorus members. Set in a Broadway audition in 1975, the show is a brilliantly complex fusion of song, dance and heartfelt stories about trying to make it. Everyone, at one time or another, puts his or her life on the line. A Chorus Line reminds us of all the reasons we went after what we love. Michael Bennett’s legendary original choreography will be recreated at TLP by cast members from the recent Broadway revival.
JUNE 20-29. Based on the international bestseller by Mitch Albom, Tuesdays With Morrie is the autobiographical story of the author, an accomplished journalist driven solely by his career, and Morrie Schwartz, his former college professor. Sixteen years after graduation, Mitch happens to catch Morrie’s appearance on a television news program and learns that his old professor is battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Mitch is reunited with Morrie, and what starts as a simple visit turns into a weekly pilgrimage and a last class in the meaning of life. Chuck Smith (Working, Smokey Joe’s Cafe) returns to direct the production that will star Robert Maher (Ragtime, West Side Story, You Can’t Take it With You) in the title role.
JULY 5-14. An affectionate tribute to small towns of a bygone era, The Music Man is family entertainment at its best. The acclaimed Broadway classic has become an all-American institution, thanks to its quirky characters and one-of-a-kind, nostalgic score of rousing marches (“Seventy Six Trombones”), barbershop quartets (“Lida Rose”) and sentimental ballads (“‘Til There Was You”) which have become popular standards. The story follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band–despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. James Beaudry (Footloose, Guys & Dolls, Oklahoma!) directs and choreographs.
JULY 18-27. Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go. In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is waiting for a secret meeting with his female accountant, while in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But the madcap fun begins with confusion as to who’s in which room, and then who’s being videotaped, who’s taken the money, who’s hired a bagpipe-playing Scottish hitman, and why the accountant keeps ending up undressed. “Unnecessary Farce is comedy at fever pitch. The laugh-o-meter runs nonstop and at warp speed.”
AUGUST 1-11. In April, TLP was granted the rights to a recent Tony Award winning Best Musical, and it’s such a hot show, they won’t let us announce it until March! What we can tell you is that this spectacularly funny song-and-dance show will star John Chase (Working, Cabaret, Sunset Boulevard), Sharriese Hamilton (Working, … Spelling Bee), Brandon Jess Ford (Boeing Boeing, All Shook Up, The Producers) and Artistic Director James Beaudry. Derek Bertelsen (Boeing Boeing, Love, Sex & the I.R.S.) will direct. This will be one for record books, so get seats early, and look for our official announcement on March 15!
AUGUST 15-25. TLP presents a Midwest premiere! ‘S Wonderful is an all singing, all dancing musical revue, featuring over 42 songs by the beloved George and Ira Gershwin, including, “Someone to Watch Over Me,” “I’ve Got Rhythm,” “Embraceable You,” “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off,” “Summertime” and more. The melodies flow through five mini-musicals inspired by stories of young love, beginning in 1920s New York City, moving to Paris in the 1930s, Hollywood in the ‘40s, New Orleans in the 1950s and ending in the present day. S’Wonderful takes you on a nostalgic ride that has been called “a gem for Gershwin lovers, young and old.”
