Methodists were up to the challenge which could be shown by an objective 'way back in 1836 when we were but a wilderness. The "Maryland Colony" had arrived in Ogle County that year. They were led by several influential, public-spirited "Easteners," one of whom was Rev. Thomas Hitt and who with the revered circuit rider, Rev. Barton Cartwright, organized the first Methodist class among the Marylanders.

The Cougars continued to battle Saturday morning in Joliet against The North Fulton Wildcats. But, the Wildcats proved to have too much offensive firepower and overcame an early Cougar lead to take the third place game at Silver Cross Field 11-3.

The Eastland team, with senior Ben Delp starting the game on the mound, held the North Fulton squad scoreless through the first two frames. The Cougars broke through to get on the scoreboard first, putting up a run in the top of the third.

First baseman Tyler Giedd led off with a base on balls. Right fielder Gabe Schrader then sacrificed him to second with a groundout to the pitcher. Tony Dunlap flied to center with Giedd advancing to third and scoring on a Brad Dunlap base hit.

The Wildcats would come right back to score three runs in their half of the third to take a 3-2 lead into the fourth. The score remained that way until the bottom half of the fifth when the Wildcats exploded to send six players across home plate and giving them a 9-1 lead after five.

The Cougars cut into that lead in the top half of the sixth, when shortstop Brad Dunlap reached on a throwing error by North Fulton second baseman Beau Lehnhausen and ended up standing on second base. Brad took third on a passed ball by the Wildcat catcher and scored on a Drew Carroll base hit. Sophomore Jordan Blair was sent in to pinch run for Carroll and stole second base. DH Cameron Geertz then drew a base on balls and Delp singled through the left side, scoring Blair to make the score 9-3 and putting runners on first and second with two outs. Tyler Giedd then drew a walk to load the bases before Gabe Schrader grounded out to the pitcher ending the Eastland threat.

The Wildcats tacked another pair of runs on the board in the bottom half of the sixth to make it 11-3 and relief pitcher Kyle Cross shut the door on the Cougar season with a scoreless seventh.
