Lois M. Sherwood

Lois M. Sherwood, age 74, of Argo Fay, Illinois, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at the University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, March 13th, at the Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, Illinois. Father Dennis Atto of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna, will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the family in Lois's memory. Lois was born May 3, 1933, in Princeton, Illinois, the daughter of Ivan Hoadley and Rosie Bell Leigh. She attended school in Mendota, Illinois. Lois married Earl "Joe" Sherwood on July 13, 1993. He passed away on August 8, 2007. Lois worked as an operator in Sublette, Illinois, and also worked at the Dixon State School, and Eaton's Manufacturing and Big Meadows Nursing Facility in Savanna. She enjoyed playng bingo and cards.

Lois is survived by three sons, Tom Full of Florida, Marty Clayton of Savanna, and Leroy Clayton of Savanna; four daughters, Sheryl Hines of Loves Park, Illinios, Mary Estey of Apopka, Florida, Cathy Steder of Eldena, Illinois, and Annette (Randy) Lucas of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; eight grandchilren, thirteen great - grandchildren; and two sisters, Mid Ambler of Mendota, and Rosie Austin of Joliet, Illinois.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, several husbands, one son Mark Full, two brothers, Harold and Pete Neighbor, and three sisters, Eva Wolfe, Sarah Reisen, and Leona Passidy.

Lester Leroy Albrecht

Lester Leroy Albrecht, age 88, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Massbach, Illinois, with Reverend Steve Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, Massbach. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Elizabeth. Lester was born August 9, 1919 the son of Jacob Henry and Emma (Reusch) Albrecht on the family farm, on Mueller Road. Where he resided for eighty-eight and one-half yeas. Lester attended Kellar Country School, which adjoined the farm on the north. Lester's favorite teacher was Lois Jasper, from Charlotte, Iowa. He said that she was a very tall lady. The room is undisturbed where teacher had room at farm.

Lester was a life long member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, Massbach, Illinois. He was baptized in 1919 and confirmed in 1933. He was the Sunday School Superintendent for many years, hosting many roller skating parties to Savanna, and Oregon, Illinois for all young people.

There was a baseball diamond on the family farm for many years, baseball teams came from Schapville, Elizabeth and surrounding areas to play. Local folk would park their cars on the hillside and watch the games. Grandpa Albrecht served as an umpire.

Lester never traveled very much as he was caretaker for his Mother and Dad. He knew the shortest distance to Elizabeth, Mt. Carroll, Savanna, and Stockton. He had favorite stores in each town.

When Lester's parents were living and the family would come home for Sunday dinner, Lester would give rides in his Studebaker and motorcycle to his nieces and nephews. Lester recently had his big barn shingled, painted and repaired. He had a new garage built for his new John Deere Gator. He was very proud of remodeling. Lester recently had surgery at the Dubuque Mercy Hospital and Pastor Steve Anderson visited him there. He enjoyed his visit. Lester never smoked cigarettes or drank liquor. Everyday he read the Bible and prayed for one hour before getting out of bed. He set a good example for family members. Lester bowled on a bowling team in Savanna. The Albrecht's Homesteaded in 1940 in the Massbach area. Lester is the last of Albrecht's in the valley.

Lester is survived by brother Glen Emery and his wife Viola (Knutti) Albrecht of Ebys Mill Road; nieces and nephews Velda, Jeanette, Stanley, Mary Ellen, Susan, Sonja, Mark, Kathleen, Bruce, Dennis, Carol and Barbara, and many great nieces and nephews.

Lester was preceded in death by his parents, brother Arthur Henry Albrecht and his wife, Pauline (Knauer) and Helmer Sherman and Mrytle (Bahr) Albrecht. Uncle Lester enjoyed his farm. His health had not been the best for several years, but he did not want to leave. It was home to him. He will be missed by his relatives and friends

Michael L. Cook

Michael L. Cook, age 67, of Hanover, Illinois, died on Friday, March 14, 2008, at Midwest Medical Center, Galena, Illinois. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. Reverend Ken Matthews of the United Methodist Church in Hanover will officiate. Burial will be in Dubuque Memorial Gardens, Dubuque, Iowa. Military rites will be accorded. A Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at the funeral home in Hanover. Mike was born on December 5, 1940, the son of Roy and Jessie (Franklin) Cook, in southern Illinois. He attended high school in Edgemont, South Dakota, graduating with the Class of 1959. Upon graduation from high school, Mike served his country in the United States Navy for eight years and continued to serve in the Naval Reserves until 1976. Mike married Rita Starr on February 20, 1983, in Hanover. Mike worked in communications for the Savanna Army Depot until retiring in 1993. He served on the Hanover Zoning Board and was a member of the Hanover Fire Department for forty years. Mike was a lifetime member of the Hanover Veteran's of Foreign War and the National Rifle Association.

Mike enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially whitetail deer. He also enjoyed playing euchre, taking pictures and was an avid Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Cardinal fan. Most of all, Mike loved spending time with his family and friends.

Mike is survived by his wife, Rita, of Hanover; four step-sons,

Rod (Laura) Diestelmeier of Wister, Oklahoma, Rick (Connie) Diestelmeier of Savanna, Illinois, Raymie (Tracy) Diestelmeier of Elizabeth, Illinois, and Robin (Deb) Diestelmeier of Savanna; two step-daughters, Roxann Schultz of Lena, Illinois, Renee Hastings of Stockton, Illinois; eighteen step-grandchildren; fifteen step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Teody) Cook of Seoul, Korea; mother-in-law, Golda Starr of Stockton; brother-in-law, Keith (Carole) Starr of Stockton; eight nieces and one nephew . Mike is preceded in death by his parents.

Jerome L. Schroeder

Jerome L. Schroeder, age 70, of Mount. Carroll, Illinois, died Saturday, March 15, 2008, at the O.S.F. St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded.Memorials may be given to The First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 S. Clay Street, Mt. Carroll, Illinois, or to a local Al-Anon chapter in Jerome's memory. Jerome was born August 5, 1937, the son of Leonard and Florice (Yeager)

Schroeder in Chicago, Illinois. After high school, Jerome served his country in the United Sated Air Force. Upon his discharge, Jerome returned to college and received his Bachelors degree from Northeastern University in Evanston, Illinois. Jerome married Bonnie Schafer on July 5, 1969, in Savanna, Illinois.

Jerome worked for several companies as an electrical engineer.In his spare time, Jerome loved model railroading, photography, reading, and watching movies. Jerome was a member of the Chadwick Model Railroad Club. Most of all, Jerome loved spending time with his family and friends.

Jerome will be missed by his wife Bonnie of Mount Carroll; a daughter Eina Schroeder of Mount Carroll; and three grandchildren Jocelyn, Ashley and Taylor. Jerome is preceded in death by his parents; and one brother Brian.

Charlene C. Gable

Charlene C. Gable, age 63, of Savanna, Illinois, died Friday, March 14, 2008 at the Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A Graveside Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at the Jacobstown Cemetery in rural Savanna, with Reverend Robert Schubert officiating. Charlene was born on November 8, 1944, the daughter of Charles and Marrina (Promenshenkel) Gable.She attended Center Hill School in Mount Carroll and worked for the Rolling Hill Progress Center in Lanark for 15 Years, until retiring in 2006.Charlene enjoyed coloring and working with her hands.Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Charlene will be dearly missed by her three brothers; Edwin (Nancy) Gable ofMt. Carroll, Melvin (Brenda) Gable of Savanna, and Francis Gable of Savanna; two sisters, Marie (Laverne) Harding of Savanna and Marge (Allen) Fowler of Maquoketa, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents and her Uncle Glen.

Rosebud Grishkowsky

Rosebud Grishkowsky, age 80, of Dubuque, Iowa formerly of Hanover, Illinois, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at her home in Dubuque, Iowa.

Funeral Services are pending at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, Illinois.
