Forreston Head Girl’s Basketball Coach Resigns

Head girl’s basketball coach Nicole Brinker has resigned her coaching position at Forreston High School to pursue other professional opportunities. She intends to continue in her teaching capacity at Forreston Jr/Sr High School.

In eight seasons as the girl’s basketball coach, Brinker compiled a conference record of 86-18 and an overall record of 175-63. During her tenure, the Lady Cardinals earned the NUIC title five times, including back to back titles in 2005-2006, 2006-2007 and 2009-2010/2010-2011. The Cardinals won the regional and sectional titles in 2005-2006, advancing to the super sectional game. Under Brinker’s leadership, the Lady Cardinals made a return trip to the super sectional in 2006/2007 after earning first place finishes in the Forreston Thanksgiving Tournament, the Polo Christmas tournament and winning the regional and sectional championships.

Brinker stated, “I have had a great opportunity as the varsity coach at Forreston High School. I would like to thank the administration, fellow teachers and coaches, and most importantly the student-athletes for eight very memorable years.”

Forreston Jr/Sr High School Principal Travis Heinz said, “Coach Brinker is passionate about working with young people. She has the ability to connect with students that draws out the best in them as an individual and as a teammate. Her presence on the court will be truly missed.”

“Coach Brinker is a class act,” commented Superintendent Lowell Taylor. “She is what is best about athletics, what is best for students and what every other coach should aspire to leave as a legacy.” Brinker has been active in extra-curricular activities since beginning at Forreston in 2003. She has coached baseball and softball at the high school level as well as volleyball, boys’ basketball and girls’ basketball at the junior high level. Coach Brinker has earned honors for her performance on the court and in the classroom. In 2006, she was named the Journal Standard Coach of the Year and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Region Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007. Brinker also earned the Teacher of the Year Award at Forrestville Valley in 2008.

The coaching position for head girls’ basketball will be posted as the Forrestville Valley School District works to continue the mission of Tradition of Excellence through Teamwork that Coach Brinker has exemplified.
