If you missed the press release in the papers, the Foundation recently awarded their 2013-2014 Scholarships. The Foundation awarded three general ag scholarships which were awarded to Haley Miller of Lanark, Marti (MJ) Schaffner of Mount Carroll, and Alyssa Nelson of Chadwick. The Harold Schmidt Memorial Forestry Scholarship went to Travis Habben of Thomson. The Josh Heeren Memorial Scholarship went to Kim Durward of Thomson. Congratulations go out to all of those who received scholarships. The committee once again had a full slate of applications to go through. I cannot stress enough the importance of filling out the application completely. Again this year, we had some very qualified candidates who did not include all parts in their application.
We have had some inquiries on whether or not we are doing a Cub’s bus trip this summer. Unfortunately due to lack of interest last year, we have decided to take a year off. We hope to be able to offer a trip again next year and fill the bus again.
Registration forms for the Progressive Ag Safety Day have been distributed to all the schools. If your child aged 6-13 did not bring a flyer home and you would like to register them, you may do so by printing off a registration form from our website or by calling our office.
We hope you are utilizing our website, http://www.carrollcfb.org more. We try to keep it as up-to-date as we can. We also have a Facebook page where you can like us. We post events, happenings, and other ag items out there.
I would like to congratulate Ed and Kali Livengood from Milledgeville. Ed is our Young Leader Chair. He and Kali applied for the Illinois Farm Bureau Young Leader Achievement Award. They are one of two finalists. Announcement of the winners will be done at the Illinois State Fair on Ag Day. Ed and Kali will need to go through a judging period yet before August. We would like to wish them the best of luck.
I would also like to congratulate Dena Harridge of Mount Carroll and Mary Francque of Dixon who are both involved in Carroll County 4-H. They have both been selected as top winners in the 2012-2013 4-H Premier LCIP Award which is sponsored by the Illinois Farm Bureau and Affiliates Youth Education Committee. They are both invited to participate in this year’s Premier 20 Leadership Conference.
We are fortunate here in Carroll County to have great leaders and to have great youth that are being developed into leaders. It is what will keep our organization strong along with the ag industry.
