Eastland Crushes Thunder

By Craig Lang

Prairie Advocate Sports

The Cougars put six runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh inning to break the game wide open and cruised to the 9-2 win. Matt LaShelle took the pitching loss for the Thunder, going six innings and giving up six runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out six.

Coach Kamper said, “The final score doesn’t show how we played for six innings. Matt LaShelle pitched six very good innings. He got in a jam in the sixth and we brought in Evan Williams. He got the first guy on a comebacker then got two ground balls. One squeaked up the middle for a single and we booted the other. We get those grounders we are out of that inning with little or no damage done. Instead we just opened the flood gates. We are on the right track, we just have a ways to go.”

River Ridge Slips By Thunder

By Craig Lang

Prairie Advocate Sports

Despite being knotted at one in the frist, the Wildcats were able to push to go ahead run across the plate in the fourth and held on to take the two to one win. The Thunder were able to out hit the Wildcats four to three but couldn’t come away with the victory. West Carroll’s Adam Ferguson had a double for one of the Thunder’s four hits and also took the loss on the mound. Adam pitched five innings giving up both runs walking four and striking out four batters.

Thunder head coach Kamper said, “I take my hat off to River Ridge’s players and coaching staff. They played an excellent game. I was disappointed in our performance. We have not been hitting the ball very well as a team the last three games and we are not adjusting to fix the problems. We work on it in practice and totally forget what we worked on in the game. We are getting frustrated at the plate causing us to not be patient and swinging at bad pitches. Our pitching a defense are getting better but we need better focus going into every game.”
