Eastland defeated visiting Scales Mound/River Ridge in a doubleheader Thursday. The Cougars won 10-7 and 6-2.
Bricelynn Myers and Marissa Harris carried the biggest offensive load for Coach Whittney Zumdahl's Eastland team in the doubleheader. Myers
and Harris were each strong from the circle, thriving out of their familiar pitching positions in the twinbill.
Eastland rolled early on in the opening game, scoring four runs in the first inning and one apiece in the second, third and fourth frames.
Scales Mound/River Ridge owned a brief lead in the third inning after plating six runs. The visiting team, however, couldn't maintain its momentum.
Myers sat down 14 of the last 15 batters she faced in the doubleheader opener. She finished with six strikeouts.
Harris recorded 10 strikeouts for Eastland in the second game.
Darcy Steffes suffered a pitching loss for River Ridge/Scales Mound in each game of the doubleheader.
Harris was the offensive leader for Eastland in the doubleheader as she reached base in all eight of her plate appearances during the doubleheader.
She collected six hits and scored five times.
Myers had two hits and scored five runs as she reached base on six different occasions.
Engelkens Nearly Perfect as M'ville/Polo Blanks Durand/Pec
Milledgeville/Polo pitcher Keali Engelkens was at the top of her game Friday when the Missiles pounded host Durand/Pecatonica 16-0 in
five innings. Engelkens tossed a no-hitter and almost recorded a perfect game as Milledgeville/Polo won impressively.
Six different Milledgeville/Polo players produced multiple hits. The Missiles scored early and often en route to the win over Durand/Pecatonica.
At Stockton, the host Blackhawks picked up a 3-1 win over East Dubuque. Pitcher Morgan Werkheiser tossed the complete game for Stockton.
Jennifer Schlichting paced Stockton at the plate with a 2-for-3 hitting performance.
Orangeville
Blanks Pearl City
In another area high school softball game, Orangeville blanked Pearl City 11-0 in six innings.
Abby Lillge earned her sixth win of the season as Orangeville defeated Pearl City.
Lillge was strong from the mound, striking out eight batters while giving up just four hits and walking one batter.
Offensive leaders for Orangeville were Lillge and Katie Boals with three hits apiece. Lillge also drove in three runs.
Orangeville moved to 14-1 after securing the win.
Pearl City pitcher Nicole Lawler struck out four opposing batters. Lawler was also a leader at the plate for Pearl City with two hits.

Dakota Downs Missles
In a pitcher's duel, Dakota hurler Robert Lizer prevailed over Milledgeville/Polo's Kirk Engelkens Friday. Dakota defeated the Missiles 4-0
in the high school baseball matchup between two longtime rivals.
Dakota, which improved to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the NUIC-East, persevered against a talented Milledgeville/Polo team. The talented Dakota
team dealt Milledgeville/Polo its first loss of the season.
Lizer was solid as he finished with five strikeouts and only one walk.
Engelkens struck out a game-high seven batters as he dropped to 2-1. The Milledgeville/Polo pitcher, however, allowed four runs on eight hits.
Milledgeville/Polo dropped to 6-1 following the loss.
Kyle Benning led Dakota offensively as he went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Cody Jacobsen finished 2-for-3 and Alex Lawson was 1-for-3 from the
plate for the Dakota team.
West Carroll Edges East Dubuque
West Carroll battled back from behind to defeat East Dubuque 2-1 Friday in one of numerous area high school baseball games. The
Thunder won the game in come-from-behind fashion. East Dubuque led 1-0 through six innings before West Carroll got going offensively. The Thunder
tied the game and eventually won thanks to three walks, one hit batsman and an error in the top half of the seventh inning.
In another area high school baseball game, Warren/Stockton defeated Galena 13-2 in five innings.
Pitcher Jared Hess was a catalyst for Warren/Stockton, pitching three scoreless innings. Warren/Stockton plated five runs in the second inning and
six in the third frame to force the Mercy Rule win over Galena.
The WarHawks improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the NUIC-West following the win.
Eastland Pulls Past Pearl City
Eastland executed well on the road Friday in a regular-season high school baseball matchup versus familiar foe Pearl City. The
Cougars scored early and often, plating multiple runs in multiple innings en route to a 10-4 win over Pearl City.
Pitcher Ben Delp claimed the win for Eastland. Delp was strong from the mound throughout the contest. The Cougars were only held scoreless in
the second and sixth stanzas.
The Eastland unit featured several offensive leaders.
Eastland scored in five of seven innings. The Cougars also benefitted from four Pearl City errors.
In another area high school baseball game, Aquin blanked A-FC 10-0 in five innings.
Zach Martin claimed the win for Aquin, recording seven strikeouts in a solid outing. A-FC committed six errors in the setback.
Offensively, Aaron Schmelzle carried the biggest bat for Aquin, belting a home run and a double. Schmelzle finished with four RBIs.
Quad City Raceway Event Postponed
The WORLD Dirt Racing League event planned for Sunday, April 19 at Quad City Raceway was postponed due to inclement weather.
The race has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 10, at the popular dirt track located at the Rock Island County Fairgrounds. Rain forved the event
to be postponed.
Grandstand tickets will go on sale at 4 p.m. on the reschedule date, Sunday, May 10, at Quad-City Raceway. The pits open at 2, with practice at 5:30
and the first race at 6.
