On Wednesday, April 10th, the third grade Language Arts students in Ms. Snyder’s class performed poetry for friends and family at Eastland Middle School in Shannon.
During the month of March the students learned how to write different types of poetry including Haiku, Diamante and Acrostic, as well as free verse and funny poems. The students read funny passages written by Bruce Lansky and Kenn Nesbitt from the books Revenge of the Lunch Ladies, My Hippo has the Hiccups, The Aliens Have Landed at Our School and the Tighty Whitey Spider.
The event was held in conjunction with the Shannon Lions Club. As part of this year’s “In a World of Service” theme, International Lions President, Wayne Madden, challenged Lions Clubs to participate in the Reading Action Program to focus on increasing literacy and access to learning resources through their services.
As part of the project, six Shannon Lions members did read-a-louds for the 3rd graders and their families. They also provided refreshments and held a drawing for ten $10 gift certificates for students to use at the upcoming EMS Scholastic Book Fair.
Everyone enjoyed a great evening filled with poetry, stories and fun!
