West Carroll Falls To Rock Island Alleman

Rock Island pounded out fifteen hits to go with the pitching of Avery Nelson to take the 9-0 win over the Lady Thunder on Monday in Thomson. The Lady Pioneers would get all the offense they would need, scoring three third innings runs. Nelson limited the West Carroll hitters to five hits on the day, going the distance and allowing only one walk. West Carroll’s Kim Durward took the pitching loss for the Lady Thunder, going six innings and allowing nine runs on thirteen hits.

Lady Thunder coach Mathey commented, “Rock Island Alleman is just a better team. They are so disciplined at the plate and never swing at a bad pitch. It might be hard to believe with a nine to nothing score, but we played about as well as we could. These games will help us down the road, I hope. We have a very tough week ahead with Alleman, Stillman Valley and Morrison.”

Lady Cougars Edge Durand/Pec

The Lady Cougars edged Durand/Pecatonica on Tuesday in Lanark 3-2. Eastland used a solid pitching performance by Ashley Nepean and timely hitting to outlast Durand/Pec. Nepean allowed no runs and two hits with six walks and six strikeouts to gain the victory. Marissa Harris earned the save. A two run homer by Ashley Larak in the bottom of the sixth inning proved to be the difference in the contest. Amanda Staheli took the pitching loss for Durand/Pec.

Stillman Valley Slips By West Carroll

The West Carroll Lady Thunder took a first inning two to nothing lead only to fall to Stillman Valley 3-2 on Tuesday at Stillman Valley. The Lady Cardinals came back with single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings to claim the victory.

The Lady Thunder managed seven hits of Stillman Valley pitcher Hannah McGoldrich but just couldn’t push runs across the plate when the opportunities arose. McGoldrich went the distance, walking none and striking out two Lady Thunder hitters. West Carroll’s Kim Durward took the loss to even her record at two and two, giving up three runs on six hits while walking two and striking out two.

West Carroll coach Don Mathey said, “We had a golden opportunity in the top of the fifth as we had the bases loaded with no outs but did not score with our two, three and four hitters up. Stillman came through in the bottom of the seventh inning.” The win keeps Stillman Valley’s record perfect at four and nothing while the loss dropped West Carroll to two wins and four losses.

Fillies Shut Out Lady Thunder

Behind the pitching of Christie Wiersema and timely team hitting, the Morrison Fillies shut out the West Carroll Lady Thunder 10-0 on Wednesday at Morrison. Wiersema went the distance, giving up only two hits while walking one and striking out ten West Carroll batters.

At the plate, Morrison got contributions from many players. Shannon Finneran, Christie Wiersema, Allie Hanson and Morgan Ammon all went two for four. Hanson contributed three of Morrison’s runs batted in. The Fillies Kaitlyn Finneran blasted a home run.

West Carroll’s Kin Durward took the pitching loss, going five and two thirds innings, giving up ten runs on eleven hits. Lady Thunder coach Mathey commented on his team’s perormance saying, “It was a very embarrassing effort tonight. We did very little right and Morrison made us look bad. Not much else to say. The errors and hits pretty much tell the story.”

Lady Cougars Hold Off Lady Broncos

Eastland jumped out to an early lead, taking a five to nothing advantage after three innings and held off the Lady Broncos 11-7 on Wednesday at Orangeville. The Lady Cougars put up six more runs over the next two innings with Orangeville countering with seven runs to make the game close.

Eastland’s Marissa Harris led the Lady Cougars on the mound, giving up five runs on nine hits while walking only one batter and striking out eighteen Orangeville hitters. Eastland hitters blasted five home runs in the contest, with Harris and Delanie Giedd each hitting a pair and Ashley Larak hitting one. Orangeville’s Carley Rote took the pitching loss for the Lady Broncos. Rote also had a home run.

Francke No Hits Fulton Unity

Audre Francke pitched a gem on the hill on Friday in Thomson, pitching West Carroll to the easy five inning 11-0 victory over Fulton Unity. Francke went the distance in her first win of the season, giving up no hits and walking three while striking out eight Unity batters.

The Lady Thunder bats came alive, pounding out ten hits while putting runs on the scoreboard in each inning of the five inning contest. Ashley Huebner went two for three at the plate and also had a pair of runs batted in. The win improves West Carroll’s record to 3-5 overall while Fulton Unity is still looking for the their first win of the year. Kayle Tomman took the pitching loss, giving up all eleven runs on ten hits with seven walks.

Thunder head coach Don Mathey said, “Audre Francke throwing the no hitter was really the key to this game. Our defensive play was pretty good as well with no errors.”

Lady Cougars Split With Stillman Valley

The Eastland Lady Cougars took the field on Saturday morning facing the Stillman Valley Lady Cardinals in a double header. The first game saw Eastland get on the score board with two runs in the bottom of the first inning and that was all starting pitcher Marissa Harris would need. Harris pitched a complete game no hitter as Eastland went on to take the 3-1 victory. Ashley Nepean went two for three at the plate in the first game with teammate Delanie Giedd going two for four.

In game two Eastland starting pitcher gave up four runs on six hits as Stillman came back to take game two 6-0. Miller walked a pair of Lady Cardinal batters and struck out to as Stillman put up a run in the fourth inning and added three in the fifth and a pair of runs in the sixth to take the victory.

Thunder Fall To Hawks

The West Carroll Thunder got off to a good start but couldn’t hold off Oregon, falling to the Hawks 8-4 on Monday in Thomson. West Carroll put three runs on the score board in the bottom of the first inning and Oregon came back with a run in the top of the second. The Hawks put up two more runs in the top of the third and West Carroll came back with a run of their own.

The Thunder’s pitching just couldn’t seem to keep the Hawks batters from getting on base and gave up three errors in the contest also. Oregon put up five more runs over the next couple of innings to take control of the game, while the Oregon pitching staff allowed only two hits in the game.

Hunter Hebeler started on the hill for West Carroll, going three innings, allowing four runs on five hits. Tyler Brashaw took the loss, pitching four innings and giving up four runs on seven hits. Trey Enloe hit a home run for West Carroll and had four runs batted in.

Thunder coach Brian Kamper said, “A lot of people are going to look at a 1-4 record and think we aren’t that good, but all four losses have come to teams that were unbeaten coming into our game. We are losing to good teams and these games are going to do nothing but help us later in the season. Oregon threw a hard throwing lefty, the best pitcher we’ve seen this year. We have to limit our errors and mental mistakes.”

Wolves Down Fulton Unity

The Pearl City Wolves got back on the winning track by beating Fulton Uniity 10-0. Colton Bastian led the team on the mound, striking out thirteen of fifteen batters he faced and at the plate going four for four with a home run. As a team, The Wolves hit the ball well and were able to move runners along with hits.

Cougars Dominate Cardinals

The Eastland Cougars used a masterful pitching performance by Tyler Giedd and capitalized on seven Forreston errors to take the 11-1 five inning victory on Wednesday in Lanark.

Giedd went the distance, allowing a single run on three hits while walking three and fanning seven Forreston hitters. After a scoreless first inning the Cougars erupted, scoring three second inning runs, two in the third and fifth, and four runs in the fourth inning. Tyler helped his own cause at the plate, going two for three with a double. Teammate Collin Macomber went two for four in the hitting department.

Forreston’s Adam Akins took the loss for the Cardinals, pitching three and a third innings and giving up six runs on three hits.

Thunder Win Slugfest With Pecatonica

In a game that saw twenty runs and twenty four hits, the West Carroll Thunder had enough to defeat the Pecatonica Indians 12-8 Thursday in Pecatonica. There was scoring in every inning as West Carroll scored in every inning except the seventh.

The Thunder’s Nick Hughes had a single, double and three runs scored while teammates Even Williams added three base hits and three runs batted in and Matt LaShelle hit a home run and a single and had three RBI’s. Evan Williams took the pitching victory for the Thunder, going six and two thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out six.

West Carroll coach Kamper commented, “I got to give all seventeen players a chance to play. The final score didn’t really dictate the game. We hit the ball well and Evan pitched a great game.”

Wolves Win At Milledgeville

Pearl City jumped out to an early lead and cruised to the easy 15-4 six inning win on Thursday at Milledgeville. The Wolves took advantage of eleven Milledgeville errors to score runs in each inning except the first and third. They put up two in the second and three runs in both the fourth and fifth innings before erupting for seven sixth inning runs to seal the win. The Missiles scored one run in the third inning and added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.
