Carroll County Farm Bureau

May is National Egg Month, and what better time to sit down and enjoy a meal made from one of the more than 1.3 billion eggs produced in Illinois each year. It's also a good time to give some thought to the actual egg "holiday" itself. The American Egg Board and other commodity groups have successfully created promotions that boost demand and awareness. Take a look at a section of Illinois Farm Bureau policy that relates to this topic, #62, Development of New Uses and Markets: "We will help develop promotional programs for businesses and restaurants that use U.S.-produced commodities in their daily business and support efforts to develop programs which encourage consumption of Illinois-grown farm products.

We will cooperate with producer-invested checkoff groups, organizations, and agencies seeking expanded domestic and export markets, placing special emphasis on value-added products."

When you hear an egg promotion on TV or radio this month, use it as a reminder to get involved in IFB policy and help build demand. Start by calling your County Farm Bureau and give us your opinion about this policy. Visit www.ilfb.org to read this policy in its entirety.

Here is another of our interviews with a member of our Membership Value Program. Crouse Plumbing and Heating Inc. provides a discount of $5 off of a service call for Carroll County Farm Bureau members. Their business was started in 1946 when John Crouse founded the business. Art and Alan took over the business in 1984 after growing up with it.

The business started in spouting business and then branched out to the heating business with selling Lennox Equipment in 1946. At that time you had to qualify to become a dealer. In 1950 the business moved into plumbing which lead to backhoe, trenching, and well pump work. They started as a Carrier dealer in 1985. Crouse Plumbing and Heating currently has 4 state licensed plumbers and 4 state well pump installers on staff. Crouse's also installed the first residential air conditioner in Carroll County in Chadwick.

They contribute to many local city, school and youth functions throughout the year. Art and Alan say the advantage of being a business in a small town is the friendly down to earth people, steady work and low travel times to jobs. For them, the disadvantage of being in a rural area is supplies and parts are 30-60 miles away meaning a larger inventory must be stocked so they can keep costs down to their patrons and be ready for emergencies. We would like to thank Crouse Plumbing and Heating for being a part of our Membership Value Program.
