High School BaseballLena-Winslow pulls off upset win over Missiles LENA Playing on its home field Friday, Lena-Winslow turned back Milledgeville/Polo. Lena-Winslow pitcher Joe Rogers allowed only one run in seven innings and struck out 11 opposing batters as the Panthers beat Milledgeville/Polo 5-1. Rogers was also commanding at the plate. The Lena-Winslow pitcher helped his cause at the plate, driving in three runs. Nick Holland led Milledgeville/Polo offensively. Holland had two hits and drove in Milledgeville/Polo's lone run. At Durand, Orangeville prevailed. Orangeville, behind the strong pitching of Scott Schindler, defeated Durand/Pecatonica 8-3. Schindler pitched seven strong innings and fanned 15 Durand/Pecatonica batters. Nick Berry connected on a triple for Durand/Pecatonica. At Galena, visiting River Ridge/Scales Mound blanked the host team 7-0. Anthony Brown pitched the complete game shutout for the winning team. River Ridge/Scales Mound won, despite committing five defensive errors. Warren/Stockton stifled Shullsburg Benton, defeating the host team 26-7. The WarHawks plated 14 runs in the top half of the seventh inning to solidify the win. Jared McNutt and Mike Werkheiser paced Warren/Stockton offensively. McNutt and Werkheiser each went 4-for-6 from the plate. Jason Brinkmeier was 3-for-5 for the winning team. Port Byron Riverdale edges West CarrollTHOMSON Port Byron Riverdale slipped past West Carroll Friday afternoon when the two high school softball teams met in a late regular-season matchup. Making the most of its offensive spurts, Port Byron Riverdale slipped past West Carroll 7-6. Katie Wiersema, Jordan Kasbohm, Jenessa Miller and Reka Sedivy each had a triple for West Carroll in the slim loss. Port Byron Riverdale provided plenty of offense in the close triumph. In another area matchup that was decided in close fashion, South Beloit edged Durand/Pecatonica 9-8. South Beloit made the most noise early on, jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the opening inning. The Bulldogs, however, couldn't hold on for the win. Lena-Winslow swept a doubleheader from Scales Mound/River Ridge, winning 12-2, 9-8. In the second game, Lena-Winslow battled back and won in come-from-behind fashion. The Panthers won easily in the first game of the doubleheader.
