Defensive Driving ClassThe AARP Defensive driving class will take place on Tuesday, May 20 and Wed., May 21. Classes are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. both days, and will be held at the Carroll County Senior Center in downtown Mt. Carroll. The 8-hour course, instructed by Stan Hewitson, teaches how one may become a more efficient driver as the effects of aging cause changes to long-time driving habits. Completion of the course entitles the driver to a discount in auto insurance premiums for a 3-year period. There is a small fee for the course, and reservations are required. Call 815-244-1800 or toll free at 866-214-1959 to register. Beginning the Dementia ConversationHave you been recently diagnosed with Dementia? Are you or your loved one suffering from memory loss? Are you a caregiver of a person diagnosed with Dementia or Alzheimer's? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then "Beginning the Conversation" is the education program for you. The Alzheimer's Association will assist you and your loved one to prepare for the future. Topics of this program include dementia education, medication concerns, community resources, legal and financial issues, and safety considerations. Mary McNally, Alzheimer's Assoc., and Sara Wise, R.N. at FHN, will be the featured speakers. These are free educational programs sponsored by a grant from the State of Illinois.
