Arlene T. Onken, age 88, of Morrison, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison.
Arlene was born October 1, 1924 in Prophetstown the daughter of Roy and Agnes (Springer) Thompson. She married Russell C. Onken on November 15, 1941 in Morrison. He preceded her in death in 2004. Arlene was employed at General Electric for 35 years retiring in 1984. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Morrison, the American Legion Auxillary and Whiteside County Genealogy. She was on the Morrison Library Board and was a Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed reading and studying genealogy.
Survivors include two daughters, Vicki (Bruce) Hunter and Terri (Roger) Doering both of Morrison; one son, Darrell (Pat) Onken of Morrison; eight grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sons in infancy, Michael Onken and Mark Onken; one brother, Harry Thompson; one sister, Stevetta Engelkens; and one grandchild, James Alan Hunter.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations will be given to Arlene’s favorite past times and charities.

Roberta J. Loomis
Loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Roberta J. Loomis of Savanna passed into eternity on May 8, 2013 at Freeport Memorial Hospital. She was 87 years of age. Friends and family may pay their respects to Roberta and family on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A funeral Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna, on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Lower York Cemetery in Thomson, IL. The daughter of Epa and Jennie (Kamphuis) Hook, Roberta Jean was born on October 30, 1925 in Fulton, IL. She married Merton P. Loomis on August 22, 1948, celebrating over 64 years of marriage. Roberta attended schools in Argo Fay and Thomson, and she graduated from Mt. Carroll High School. Upon her graduation in 1943, she was appointed Gas Stamp and Sugar Rationing Clerk in Carroll County during WWII, and was later appointed Deputy Circuit Clerk of Carroll County.
After her marriage, she was employed by the Department of Public Health; Northwestern Illinois Gas and Electric Company; Savanna Medical Center and finally, the Savanna Community Unit School District as head bookkeeper, under the administration of Bill Floyd for 22 years, until she retired in 1987. After retirement, she was appointed Treasurer of the Savanna School Board for 18 years.
Roberta was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary (past president), VFW, Moose Lodge, and the 600 bowling club. She volunteered her time at the First United Methodist Church in the church office. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, crocheting, poker, traveling with her husband helping him navigate throughout the United States, with the Extra Miler Club. Most of all, she cherished time with her family.
In later years, as blindness set in and her other senses took over, her family learned many lessons from, and with her, for which they will be forever grateful.
Roberta will be deeply missed and remembered lovingly by her husband, Mert of Savanna; three daughters, Karen (Dennis) Harvilla, Lafayette, CO; Jean (George) Sammeth, Arvada, CO and Susan Loomis (Eugene Correa), Thornton, CO. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Stephanie and Heather Hensley; one grandson, Matthew Harvilla; one step-grandson, Andrew Sammeth; and a great-grandson, Nathaniel Hensley.
She was preceded in death by her parents Epa and Jennie Hook, an infant sister, Wilma Mae, and infant daughter, Tina Lee.
Betty J. Rusynyk
Betty Jean (McFadden) Rusynyk, 88, of Parma, Ohio, formerly of Savanna, died Sunday, April 7, 2013. Betty was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Savanna, the daughter of Maurice and Ellis (Schmidt) McFadden. She was married to Michael Rusynyk for 66 years.
She was a former member of the South Bend Blue Sox in the All American Girls Professional Baseball League (A.A.G.P.B.L.) in 1943, as a pitcher. Betty Jean played in less than 10 games for the South Bend Blue Sox. After leaving the league, she played eight years with the Savanna, IL, All-Star team and five years with the Lakewood, Ohio, Rangers. She had taken up golf and played in two leagues.
Survivors include her husband, Michael; three children, Gary (Marti), David (Connie) and Lynn; four grandchildren, Sanya, Kristen, Megan and Alexander; two brothers, Raymond McFadden of Savanna and Gary (Patti) McFadden of LeClaire, Iowa; and three sisters, Marilyn (Hubert) Wise of Clinton, Iowa, Sharon Welch of Elgin, and Maureen Ellinor of Lanark.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Gorden McFadden and a granddaughter, Taryn.
A funeral service was held Friday, April 12th, at the Toman and Sons Funeral Home with interment in Woodvale Cemetery in Middleburg Heights, Ohio.
Hazel Fehler, 95, formerly of Thomson, Illinois passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Havana Health Care in Havana, IL. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at Clinton Lawn Cemetery in Clinton, IA. Memorials may be given in her memory to the Thomson United Methodist Church, 1901 Rt. 84, Thomson, Illinois, 61285, where she was a member.
Kathryn J. Springer
Kathryn J. (Brown) Springer, 52 of Freeport, Illinois passed away on May 9, 2013. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 17, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover, Illinois. A gathering will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Kathryn’s memory.
