Craig Dusing

It's Electric

Craig Dusing (in photos) was guest speaker at the Entrepreneurs and Inventors Club meeting on Thursday, May 22, at Lanark's Heritage Center. Dusing owns Carroll Industrial Molds in Milledgeville, but presented his new start-up business Thursday night.

Craig Dusing's Electric Engine

"Electric Vehicle Solutions" (EVS) started in August 2007, with the intention of capitalizing on the electric-powered vehicle market due to the rising cost of gasoline. EVS offers electric vehicle conversions, components, and service at his Milledgeville location.

Dusing drove his conversion vehicle (in photos), a 1997 Chevrolet S-10 pickup. It is powered by 18 - 8 volt golf cart batteries, and has a range of 40 to 50 miles.

"I calculated that with the cost of electricity to charge the batteries, it runs at 59 miles per gallon compared to a gas engine," Dusing told the 20 members in attendance. "It's made of off-the-shelf parts, using golf cart and fork lift motor technology."

The truck is a 5-speed, and will travel at a speed of at least 70 mph. "It's never been out of 4th gear, and runs at about 3000 to 4000 rpm's," Dusing added.

The sale price for this type of vehicle conversion is $19,950, Dusing said. His plan is to eventually establish retail service centers, develop a standard operating business model, open additional service centers, and franchise the operation.

"Don't ever let anyone tell you that our quiet, small county won't allow your business to grow," he stated. "With technology, and the internet, DSL, fiber optics available in Carroll County, my business communicates with businesses all over the world every day. This is a great place to live, raise your kids, and grow your business."
