Paul Douglas Tobin, age 67, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died suddenly at his home in Mount Carroll, Saturday morning, May 4, 2013. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll. Interment will take place at a later date. Visitation will be held 4:30 - 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at the West Carroll Middle School, Mt. Carroll. Paul’s family invites everyone to wear their school colors or Cubs gear to the visitation. Paul was born on May 25, 1945 in Belvidere Illinois the son of Curtis R and Virginia (Peterson) Tobin. Paul was a 1963 graduate of Belvidere High School. He earned his undergraduate and Masters degree from Western Illinois University. Paul earned his CAS from Northern Illinois University. On June 14, 1969, Paul married Nancy McKeown in Belvidere. They were married for 44 years during which time Nancy was a a full-time educator, raising 2 children. In more recent years, Paul and Nancy have spent their time doting on their three grandchildren.
He dedicated his professional life to education and administration. Paul was Principal and Athletic Director of Forreston High School for 14 years; Superintendent of the Mt. Carroll School District for 10 years; Superintendent of the Preston, Iowa School District for 7 years. His last position was the Athletic Director for the West Carroll School District.
Paul was a member and past President of the Mt. Carroll Rotary Club, board member of the Mt. Carroll CDC and the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies, and the American and Illinois Associations of School Administrators. Paul loved to volunteer at community events, especially his beloved Mayfest.
Paul loved and was loved by his family,friends and thousands of students whose lives he helped frame. He had a huge heart and a great sense of humor. Paul was a sports enthusiast both as a participant, coach, and fan, never missing his children’s events. In particular he had a passion for his beloved Chicago Cubs, the Bears, Notre Dame and the local school districts.
Paul is survived by his wife, Nancy; daughter Shannon (Jim) Miller of Chicago,son Douglas (Amy) Tobin of Plainfield; three grandchildren, Gabrielle Miller, and Samuel and Alexander Tobin; a sister Mary (Rodney Sher) Tobin of Evanston; a brother, Curt (Brenda) Tobin of Poplar Grove; and loving nieces and nephews. Paul is preceded in death by both parents.
Marvin D. Buisker
Marvin D. Buisker, 87 yrs. old, of Lanark went home to be with the Lord, with his family at his side, on Tues. April 30, 2013. He was born on Jan 6, 1926 in Forreston, a son of Ollie and Alice (Kniess) Buisker. He attended Shannon Schools. Marvin married Joyce Guentner on Jan 7, 1951 at the Lanark Church of the Brethren. Before retiring he was employed for thirty years at Kelly Springfield, He also farmed. Marvin was also a member of The Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren. He served with the U.S. Army from Jan. 1955 to Dec. 1956. He was a lifetime member of the Freeport VFW and was a member of the Lanark American Legion.
Marvin is survived by his wife, son Randall (Renee) Buisker, S. Wayne, WI, Shari (Ron) Morgan of Hodgkins, IL, grandchildren Adam (Beth)Buisker, Meeker, Co, Ashley (Jeremiah) Kleiber, Darlington, WI, two great-grand children Xavier and Lillith Buisker, Meeker, Co, and his favorite pet Tigger, two sisters Ruth Fransen, Freeport, and Evelyn Roach, Rockford. He is preceded by his parents and two brothers.
A celebration of his life will be at 11:30 am on Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Church Grove Church of the Brethren. The Visitation for friends and relatives will be on Thursday from 4-7 pm at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark. Graveside service will be on Friday morning at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport prior to the church service.

Oscar Jewell “Junior” Brown, Jr. age 84 of Chadwick, Illinois died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Chadwick. Burial of his cremated remains will take place in the Chadwick Cemetery. Junior was born at home on January 27, 1929, the son of Oscar and Jewell (Rice) Brown, Sr. in Conant, Illinois. He attended Chadwick High School and graduated with the Class of 1947. Junior married Cleo M. Weber on June 19, 1948 in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Chadwick, Illinois.
Junior farmed most of his life, beginning with Weber Farmer Service in Chadwick, Illinois. He later rented a farm near Mount Carroll, Illinois. Junior milked up to forty cow’s everyday, until retiring and moving back to Chadwick in 1988. He was a member of the Carroll County Mounted Patrol and was active within the farming community. Even after retiring, Junior always kept current on farm prices. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, coon hunting and tractor pulls. Most of all, Junior treasured spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Junior will be dearly missed by his wife of sixty-four years, Cleo; two daughters, Bonnie (Rodney) Gruenwald of Chadwick, Illinois and Vicky (Tim Stanton) Jones of Mount Carroll, Illinois; six grandchildren, Doug Jones of Milledgeville, Illinois, Jamie Jones of Chicago, Illinois, Ty (April Lutz) Gruenwald of Monroe, Wisconsin, Travis (Niki) Gruenwald of Onalaska, Wisconsin, Kristi Jones of Dixon, Illinois and Tony (Sheryll) Gruenwald of Abilene, Texas; six great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kalie, Jasmine, Dominic, Bailee and Zander; one sister, Wanda (Robert) Stewart of Chadwick, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
Junior was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward.

Howard N. Haggerty, age 82 of Hanover, Illinois died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Elizabeth Nursing Home, Elizabeth, Illinois. Cremation rites have been accorded. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hanover with Father Noel Jacob as Celebrant. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover, with military rites accorded by the Hanover VFW Post #5300. A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, prior to the service at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Howard’s memory.
Paul Thulen, age 51, of Savanna passed away Monday, April 29, 2013 at Provena St. Joseph Hospital, Elgin, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 2013 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery.
