Richard Harry Neuschwanger, age 57, of Savanna, Illinois, died Wednesday, June 03, 2009, at the Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Richard was born December 22, 1952, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Harry Christian and Frances Mae (Brudi) Neuschwanger. He is a graduate of the Mt. Carroll High School, Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Richard was a caretaker and handyman, he enjoyed mowing lawns for many people. He loved spending as much time as possible outdoors, farming, fishing or riding his four – wheeler. Richard also enjoyed talking with friends and telling stories at the gas station.
Richard is survived by his daughter Rachel (Greg) Lowe of Orlando, Florida; his sister, Diana (Russ) Hansen of Mt. Carroll; and his companion Peggy Shaw of Savanna.
Trevor M. McColley
Trevor M. McColley, age 4, Hanover, Illinois, died on Saturday, May 30, 2009 as a result of a house fire in Hanover. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Trevor was a gift from God, who was called home to be with the Lord. He enjoyed playing in the mud and was fascinated with bugs. He also enjoyed taking baths and playing in the tub, even after the water was all drained. Trevor couldn’t get enough of Alvin and the Chipmunks and their music. He watched Thomas the Train and could name all the trains on The Island of Sodor. When Trevor found a penny, it was the best thing ever, and was known as his “Lucky Day”. Most of all he loved spending time with his mom and papa.
Trevor will be dearly missed by his mother, Shannon of Hanover; father, Russell of Mount Carroll, Illinois; two brothers, Christopher McColley of Hanover and Nathan McColley of Mount Carroll; maternal grandparents, John Schuyler of Hanover and Sharon (Randy) Myli of Peoria, Illinois; paternal grandparents, Richard (Ruth) McColley of Mount Carroll; maternal great grandmother, Diane (Joe) Russell of North Fort Myers, Florida; paternal great grandmother, Mary Chadwick of Savanna, Illinois; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Trevor is preceded in death by great grandfathers.
Ruth Louise Geary
Ruth Louise Geary, 92, of Lanark died Sunday May 31, 2009 at FHN Memorial Hospital. She was born on Aug. 30, 1916 in Polo, a daughter of Guy and Stella (Eckles) Waterbury.
Ruth was a graduate of Polo High School. On June 1, 1934, she married Wales A. Geary in Polo. She was formerly employed at the Green Giant Canning Co. and retired from Micro Switch. She was a member of the Lanark Church of the Brethren, where she was a Sunday School teacher, member of the choir, and a Church Board Member. She was also a member of the G.A.R., former Girl Scout leader, activity director for bible school, and a member of the Home Extension Society. She enjoyed her grandchildren, great grandchildren, reading, golf, bowling, bus trips, home decorating, people, all music and sports. She was a member of the Dizzy Dames Red Hat Society.
Ruth is survived by three daughters; Lorene Roberts, Patricia (Jim) Franey, both of Lanark, and Jan Geary of Freeport, her grandchildren; Robin Foster, Mike Eller, Shelly Young, Tamara Nelson, Kim (Eric) Smith, Kristy (Jim) Pierce, Sarah (Randy) Witt, Rob Shipley, Jay Pauley, Guy (Gina) Pauley, Jeremy (Talisa) Pauley, and 26 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, one daughter; Diane Pauley, and one brother; Virgil Waterbury.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday June 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M. at the Lanark Church of the Brethren with Pastor John Sgro officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lanark Cemetery. A Memorial has been established for the Lanark Church of the Brethren and an Eastland Athletic Scholarship will be established in her name.
Randall S. Slick
Randall S. Slick, age 59 of Thomson, Illinois, died Friday, May 29, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center North Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2009 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2009, prior to the service at the Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Randy was born on December 17, 1949, the son of Floyd L. and Erma C. (Ethridge) Slick in Savanna, Illinois. He attended Mount Carroll area schools. Randy married Judith A. Smith on February 20, 1970 at the Mount Carroll Church of God, Mount Carroll.
Randy worked for Kelly Springfield, Freeport and later Elkay Manufacturing in Lanark and Savanna. He also worked for several local implement dealers, including Handel Implement, Chadwick, Illinois, Polo Equipment, Polo, Illinois, and Maloney Equipment in Fulton, Illinois. He also worked at Irv’s Repair in Chadwick, he was self-employed delivering campers from Indiana to their final destinations, and Advance Auto, Clinton, IA. Randy was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick, and was a past member of the Chadwick Lions Club and the Chadwick Fire Department. Randy loved tractors, especially his Allis Chalmers that he would drive in local parades and took to area shows. He also enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing. Most of all, Randy cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
Randy will be dearly missed by his wife, Judy; a daughter, Renae (Todd) Bartels of Freeport, Illinois; a son, Ron (Casey) Slick of Edgerton, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Clara Bartels, Brandon, Lillyann, and Melanie Slick; two brothers, James (Betty) Slick of Freeport, and Donald (Merille) Slick of Mount Carroll, and many nieces and nephews.
Randy is preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Jamison; and one sister Joan Barrett.
Ann M. Johnson
Ann M. Johnson, 80, of Lanark, died Monday, June 1, 2009 at FHN Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1929 in Hermansville, MI, a daughter of John and Barbara (Bedi) Tuscan. She married Robert L. Johnson on Nov. 24, 1948 in Chicago.
She was employed for 10 years at Green Giant Canning Co. and retired from the Eaton Corp. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark.
She loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, her neighbors, the Cubs, and scrapbooking.
Surviving are three sons: Donald (Chris), Dennis (Cathy), and Douglas (Linda) Johnson, all of Lanark, her grandchildren: Stacey (Rob) Vock, Nic (Amy) Johnson, Sarah Johnson, Jennifer (Brad) Leach, and Darcie Johnson, her great grandchildren, CeAnna and Kade Vock, Bradly, Lauren, and Will Johnson, and one sister; Mary Tuscan of Savanna. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband on Jan. 17, 2006, one son; Alan Johnson, one granddaughter, two brothers; Steve and Johnny Tuscan, and two sisters; Sylvia Rapaich and Kathryn Tuscan.
Services will be on Friday, June 5, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark, with Pastor Philip Mathai officiating. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport. Friends may call from 4 to 7 P.M. on Thursday at the Russell-Frank Funeral Home in Lanark. A Memorial has been established in her memory.
