Farm Bureau at a glance

Go To The Carroll County Farm Bureau

By Chastity Welch, Carroll County Manager

Due to our remodeling project, the Carroll County Farm Bureau and COUNTRY Insurance office will both be closed on June 18, 19, and 20. We apologize for this inconvenience. If you have an emergency you can still call COUNTRY's phone 815-244-6285 and will be transferred to the Service Center where you can reach a live person.

The Young Leaders will be holding their Annual Harvest for All on Saturday, June 21. Last year through the generosity of the farmers in Carroll County, nearly $17,000 was donated to the four food banks that serve Carroll County. With the way the current economy is, I know more and more families are finding relief in making ends meet by using the food pantries more. So more than ever, we will need to have another successful year in order to achieve our goal and make sure all those who are hungry do not go without. The Young Leaders will begin scheduling appointments later this week. If you would like to donate and have not been contacted, please call our office at 815-244-3001 and we will make sure you have the opportunity.

Peaches! We just got word that the Southern Illinois peach crop is looking good for this year. In the next few weeks we hope to have all the information on prices and when they will be delivered. I will be sure to keep you informed. I know two years ago the crop was excellent. I am hoping for the same thing this year. So if you are interested in peaches, keep your eyes open as more information will follow shortly.

Illinois Farm Bureau announced it's annual Commodities Conference, Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield. This year's conference will highlight "Off the Charts" farming and tackle issues like record-high commodity and input prices, never-before-seen global demand, dramatic weather, and over-the-top energy needs.

General session speakers will detail trends in oil and energy markets and their impact on global commodities and agricultural markets. Dr. Bill Tierney, VP of Research for John Stewart and Associates, will discuss the extensive relationships and dynamics of energy markets and agriculture. Ross Korves, agricultural economist with ProExporter and Truth about Trade & Technology, will cover worldwide trends in commodity markets and the dynamics of supply responses and acreage. There will also be a wide variety of breakout sessions.

The program begins with registration and viewing of exhibits at 8:00 a.m., followed by opening remarks at 9:00 a.m. Cost to attend is $35/person which includes all conference materials, lunch and breaks. Pre-registration is encouraged through contacting our office. Deadline for pre-registration is July 18.
